England bat first to help the ECB make this test last more than 3 days.
Not a bad day's work, that. I remember a time when 300 was seen as a decent day's score in test cricket. Around 3 rpo. Now you're looking at over 4.5 rpo as the standard. Wouldn't have happened in Boycott or Tavare's day!
The key has to be to avoid the follow on. Which even this very limited Windies side ought to be able to do. 217 is not a lot of runs to get. If they don't manage it, and do have to follow on, the game could be nearly done come tea time on saturday.
Good to see the Windies making a bit more of a contest so far today. One sided tests are no use to anyone, and would only hasten the possible demise of the five day game. Which would be a crime.Which would not be good for the ECB, or the game in general, as everyone's said. I can't watch the games live, but in the roundups on Youtube I hate seeing vast swathes of seats completely empty. if the five/four day format goes down the plug hole, I'm out of following cricket. It's as simple as that. When I used to attend tests at the Oval or Lords or Old Trafford in the sixties and seventies, the stands were packed to the rafters when we were playing this lot. And not infrequently, there'd be a steel band playing somewhere in the ground, especially for the London matches. The best crowd banter, back and forth between black and white, was always at the West Indies matches, too. Humorous needle, never overstepping the mark.
That said, West Indies are a work in progress, it seems to me. Everybody knows that playing the Aussies or India (or South Africa) will be a different kettle of fish entirely.
Think you spoke to soon. Since drinks been giving wickets away. Such a shame wanted to see a good contestGood to see the Windies making a bit more of a contest so far today. One sided tests are no use to anyone, and would only hasten the possible demise of the five day game. Which would be a crime.
Yeah; I jinxed them. They were 50 odd without loss earlier.Think you spoke to soon. Since drinks been giving wickets away. Such a shame wanted to see a good contest
Do try to keep up at the back of class, yeah?Time for @jimharri to say “Hey the Windies are making quite a fight of this” to trigger the flurry of wickets.
Athanaze looks a really elegant player.Really enjoying this partnership although does highlight how poor our bowlers are. I know the pitch is flat but bashir looking pretty average imo. Yes he had two wickets but both where poor shots from the batsman.
Good test for England (pardon the pun)
He does look a player. Gutted he couldn’t get his century. Stokes seems to be our most dangerous bowler. Holder not looking too comfortableAthanaze looks a really elegant player.
Woakes without movement is totally ineffective. This pitch is the perfect one to show he’d be a poor pick for the ashes next year.He does look a player. Gutted he couldn’t get his century. Stokes seems to be our most dangerous bowler. Holder not looking too comfortable
So just the 3 bowlers then. Depressing but it’s true!Woakes without movement is totally ineffective. This pitch is the perfect one to show he’d be a poor pick for the ashes next year.
Atkinson hasn’t been as aggressive in this test.
We need to find someone who can spin the ball.
Do try to keep up at the back of class, yeah?
