He's 33 and bowling like this has ruined his body. He's missed 80 tests since his debut. He burns short and bright.
I'm aware of his age; I was thinking of the here and now, possibly the next 12-18 months. He clearly won't have the longevity that Jimmy's had. But he does seem to lift the team when he's playing, he seems such a bloody nice fella.

Well played England. Well played Bairstow and Wood today.

Just a shame that half the stadium had fucked off before the end there to give them their deserved proper ovation.

Can’t stand or understand early leavers me. Just something that doesn’t come into my way of thinking.

This may seem like a stupid question, but it's made in all innocence. When you basically know you're going to get rain for the whole day, what's to stop you covering the entire outfield? Ok, it'd be work for about thirty or forty groundsmen, but all you need is a bloody great tarpaulin with, I suppose moveable pillars of diminishing sizes in concentric circles from the middle out to a bit beyond the boundary, to ensure the run off of water.
It'd cost, sure, but it's the Ashes at stake, for heaven's sake!
Is it actually against the rules? What am I missing?

If it's going to be constant rain, with no let up, what good will covers be? When would the players get out to play?

It means you'd have the entire ground, outfield and all, fresh and good to go for the final day. (The weather forecast is not solid rainfall for the final day. If we can get sessions or even parts of sessions on Sunday, we can do this).
