We have to have a bowl at these before Lunch.
He had 6-7 flashes where the ball could have gone anywhere, inside edge and outside edge. In that sense, his play was no different from what it has been, just, as you say, riding his luck.
I reckon slap it round for a lead of 200 asap and put them in.
I guess it will depend on what the England camp think about the weather. If we get to 200 lead wouldn’t be surprised to see a declaration by lunch (a big if, mind)I think England are going to bat as long as they can in the good weather.
So lets go all in on back of the envelope maths. 77 overs left today.
I'd want to bowl at Australia for about 40. That gives England 35 overs to rack up a score which at the current RR would be a lead of about 350.
Australia's longest innings of the series is 116 overs. Realistically they won't bat for more than 100.
So that would leave England needing maximum 60 overs of good weather across the weekend - 2 sessions out of 6.
Optimistically you might only need 1 clear session.
So IMO the move is bat until tea and spend the last 7 sessions of the match trying to get 10 wickets.
They only need a draw for the ashes. They could do a boycott in their innings if they expect the rest of the test being a washout.Aren’t Australia supposedly renowned for their attacking brand of cricket?
This is mind-numbingly negative.
Runs the risk of running out of time without bowling them out ,we can always knock some off at the end if needs be , can't see then batting after lunch , it's just not on the mindsetI think England are going to bat as long as they can in the good weather.
