Croatia

Not been to Dubrovnik, but Split is nice, though will probably be pretty quiet this time of the year. Only really worth going to Split if you spend some time on the islands just off the coast (IMO). Brac is nice (good beaches) Hvar is a bit more picturesque, but Vis (the smallest and farthest of the lot - though not too much further) was the best for me...really chilled out, amazing beaches.

I'm going to Montenegro at the start of next month, flying to Dubrovnik and then heading south. I'm expecting the weather to be pretty good (20-25 degrees in the day, cooler at night) and the place to be fairly quiet, but that's the way I like it. Dubrovnik out of season is still a great place - fewer tour groups getting in the way everywhere - but it's probably not for you if want somewhere lively. If you do go, take a day trip to Mostar in Bosnia and to Kotor fjord in Montenegro. PM me if you want to know any more because I've been over there several times.

Went to Croatia and Montenegro just before the war started. Was only 14 at the time. I can't remember much, being just a kid was interested only in a decent swimming pool and good weather. Think we stayed at a place called Cavtat. Did a day trip to Dubrovnik, a quaint old place where they still have a wall running outside the town, you could get on the wall and walk around the town, looking in at a sea of red tiled roof tops. The people there knew the war was going to start soon, and seemed resigned to what was going to happen, yet at the same time they were really friendly and welcoming. All in all a good time.

Funnily enough we went on a school holiday to Romania in the summer ('89) just before the revolution kicked off there... desperate poverty everywhere, and an oil leak on the coast where we stayed ruined the beach.

For my holiday next year I will mostly be going to Stretford...

was at a wedding last year in zadar. it s lovely there, the promenade is class at sun down there! people are friendly as,don t know was it was because i m irish or what.
dubrovnik is meant to be the best....but go down to split if you fancy...bit of a drive.the folk music is beautiful!

It depends what you want to do, it is not a shopping holiday, if you were looking to go for that than you're better off going up north, to somewhere like Split, but where we were, down South(ish) the weather was unbelievably hot, 40 plus degrees, the beaches are riddled with sea urchins, and their beaches are mainly stone, where we were anyway.
It really depends what you're looking for out of it, it's great for things like sailing holidays, and activity holidays, but what you want and where you go are pretty important when it comes to choosing where you go.
