Crumpsall Synagogue Attack - two people confirmed dead, one inadvertently shot by police along with the suspect

There are lots of Jewish Blues, of which I am one, and I know that the comments here will be hugely appreciated - and are not really a surprise to me, knowing how wonderful our fan community is.

Unfortunately, as almost every Jew I know agrees, it was only a matter of time till something as tragic as this occurred, but to happen with this community, which was so proactive in it's interfaith work and partnerships with other local faith groups, including the Muslim community, is even more shocking.

Thank you for all your love, common sense and support.
I remember the story of Manchester's chief rabbi coming out in support of Bert Trautmann when people wanted to stop him playing as an example for all to follow.

I'd be surprised if he had a bomb strapped around him.
He would've detonated it next to the door surely or set it off as he was on the ground.
I think it was made to look like it was a suicide vest but then again if there are two people arrested in connection with it then you have to think they've helped to assist him.
All ifs and buts at the minute of course.

Terrorists want to divide us. Communities like this one who work so hard to build bridges are the main target. They try and crush community through fear and hatred.

This bastard won’t win.

Police confirm it wasn’t a viable device.

I happen to live in the general area, albeit a couple of miles north. We have a big Jewish community and a significant Muslim community, especially in Cheetham and Crumpsall in the case of the latter. Only today, I had my lunch in a cafe that often has Jewish customers, but has Muslims too. Today, as I sat at table, one of my nearest neighbours was a Muslim woman in a headscarf.

It just takes the odd **** to spoil the harmony. It's bloody sickening. Why anyone would imagine that murdering innocents is the answer to anything, I cannot imagine. Everyone should be free to live and worship as they please, within the law.

Social media has a lot to answer for, but so does individual morality, or the lack of it. We all know that murder is wrong. There is no excuse.

Not sure if related but two choppers extremely low flying around blackley. Just gone over Aldi, the clough and back.

My brother in law works in counter terrorism. They get loads of intelligence, do you really think they make it public knowledge?
I’m asking because if there’s going to be a threat to schools then I want my and every other school to know about it! There wasn’t a threat and so no warnings were given. I don’t want my child’s school which happens to be ten miles away from the incident to close and send everyone home causing widespread panic when there’s no need to, when they have not been advised to do so by anybody whatsoever. Instead I see people totally overreact based on some no mark they’ve heard on Toktok saying ‘they’re’ whoever ‘they’ are are now targeting schools! I know of two children who were collected from nursery as soon as the attack occurred because the parents were shit scared that schools were being attacked and wanted their children at home with them. It’s madness.
When the IRA was at its pomp in the 70’s and early 80’s there wasn’t this much scare mongering going on amongst the communities where we live.
FWIW I believe all schools should be ‘locked down’ these days anyway and they are as far as I’m aware. In so much as they’re either finger print entry systems or key fob entry or key pad entry etc. No problem in that and no problem on them being more vigilant in times of these attacks by not letting in people they don’t know etc. So no need to panic.
Let’s not get our knickers in a twist calling it a ‘lock down’ or any other sensationalist term. Just keep calm and carry on. There’s some evil fuckers amongst us, there always has been and there always will be.

Find it mad they didn't just do a headshot right away considering they thought he had a bomb.

Always the innocent who get dragged into this nonsense , RIP to both victims
Probably went to disable him first unlike the yanks who would have filled him full of lead. A fatal shot is the answer to these sort of people

The police in this country have the worse job going now .........full of ding bats and loons and they have to sadly deal with them now instead of doing the job they should be doing

I'd sign up to losing a few civil liberties if it meant that we are a lot safer, something is going to have to give. If anyone is on Twitter or Bluesky it'll be a bloodbath today if you're not thick skinned enough to decipher the shit.

People were murdered today and the people involved should be getting all of our concern including law enforcement and medical staff who have to deal with the aftermath of cunts like this.

Prayers are with the Jewish community in these trying times. I am hearing it reported that there was a member of the public who took swift action to prevent the offender from entering the synagogue. I would like to know more about this individual who may have alerted the police or took some action to prevent what may have been an even worse tragedy. Thank goodness the offender was not able to enter the synagogue as there would be services on today.

However there is the chance of a device going off if he is holding the trigger in his hand. Thereby blowing up the synagogue with the people inside.
Sheila, high velocity rifle ammunition moves at approx 3,000 ft per second.
He would have been dead before he even heard the sound of gunfire.
Which as you know (as an ex- teacher ),moves at around 720 miles per hour.

It’s so fucking depressing.

You now can’t call for the Israeli government to stop murdering tens of thousands of men, women and children as you get called antisemitic.

I’m not anti Muslim if I want those of the Jewish faith to have a place to live and pray the same as I’m not antisemitic yo want the Palestinians to have a place called home, and to be able to live freely.

There will be plenty of people using today’s atrocity to further their own agendas.

RIP to those killed today, in Crumpsall, where I call home, and Palestine.
Posted in other thread.

Aha I didn’t know the first bit. I guess I should watch less terrorism films!!
Thank you. The last paragraph gave me a smile, the first one today. :-)

At the time there was a huge demo outside Maine Road. Things were tense. His open letter in the MEN reminding Jews of the need for forgiveness completely defused the situation. Bert later worked with formal groups to bring communities together. In 1956, of course, he completed the journey from Nazi to hero.
Thinking at the moment of my family connections to North Manchester Jews and the sorrow they feel today.

Sadly in this day and age they will win and the reaction over the last two summers have proven that :(
I hate to say it but you got a feeling that something on a far serious note is around the corner :(

For some reason some people thought he was a member of the SS ( maybe because he was in The Hitler Youth),
but he was a Fallschirmjäger(paratrooper) and served with distinction on the Eastern Front.
