Crystal Palace (A) I PL I Post Match Thread

Palace away is probably the one game you don't want after a tough European away game against Real Madrid. That made the result even more special, probably much better than any of us expected. Also games like this build our mental toughness and togetherness in what is a fairly young and new team. Anyway here's Pep.

0-3 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is really, really tough place to come. They are so good when they attack the channels inside with Yeremy Pino, Mateta and Ismaila Sarr. They defend so good. They are are a really good team, look at what they are doing this season.

"We have tried to work a lot and be ourselves, Still we are not at the top in some moments. But we can be better and better. We are in a good position and the players are doing fantastic so far.

"Matheus is growing all the time. He can be an incredible full-back. He is adapting and the cross is really good and that is Erling's strength.

"Today he [Phil Foden] didn't play good, he lost a lot of balls. He was rushing with every action, he needs to play more calm and keep the ball and in the right moment change the gear. Saying that he is doing terrific for the team."

0-3 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is a really tough place to come. When you lose the ball they attack incredibly well but we were patient. We were lucky when they hit the post from Wharton but really pleased for the performance and victory to grow our mentality.

"Erling is a forward to score the goals but in the second half he keeps the ball. He was able to contain situations. He helped us be together. In the second half he was outstanding.

"In the first half we were too much in a rush. We talked about the spaces we should attack but we were not patient enough. After we played with the tempo we should.

"Rayan with his quality in the final third has special vision."

Made me laugh how the bitter commentary tried belittling the result once it was in the bag by mentioning that even "Manchester United have been here to Selhurst Park and won this season"

I thought that was odd. Just in the middle of the commentary "Manchester United have been here to Selhurst Park and won this season". As far as I could hear, there was no link to them before or after, just a gratuitous, random mention.

Very professional performance throughout against a really physical side. Some payback for that cup final result. 3 wins in one week (goals 8-1). Coped well with Doku's absence. Savinho got penalty assist but not sure he would have scored if not fouled. Still even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Only saw last 5 as was otherwise engaged. Read match thread from time to time and everytime was greeted with posts about Foden being shite.

Then heard commentary give him MOTM..
Lolz.
To be fair both Pep and Foden himself have said he was poor.

Two wins at two incredibly difficult grounds to go too, before the games the press lauded the talents of madrid and palace and talked with glee bout how city would struggle after the games both teams were labeled as pub teams who city stole wins off, interesting how palace werent a pub team when the rags nicked a win off them a couple of weeks ago.

Dont let the press sour your enjoyment with their bullshit narrative, just watch and enjoy what you know you're seeing not what they tell you you're seeing.

An oniminous performance, that. Fantastic. Cherki makes us so much better as a team.

The defence is quite solid IMO - it’s the attacking spark we lack in some games and he brings it no matter what. The assist for Foden was a perfect example, last season somebody wouldn’t have driven forward with the ball. Cherki did and had no second thoughts about doing so.

We’ve seen time and time again the need for players to adjust to the city system. Reindeer has the attributes for sure. At the moment though the game looks a bit too fast for him and he needs to adjust to that. I’m hopeful
yeah i get that but there is no excuse for a lack of effort.....he is a ghost on the pitch....he creates nothing, he has zero physicality - infact he is a coward in this part of the game.

I agree he has the technical ability but without the effort that is meaningless

Honestly i feel like watched a diff game to everyone else, the game i watched they had 10 good mins and apart from that we were in control
I missed the first 15-20 minutes and from when I started watching I thought we were the better team. So I'm guessing that first part of the game Brentford must have bossed it.

They had 1 good chance, i would say bossing it as a stretch

It's Sky. Probably some sort of contractual obligation.

Presume the context was before today only the rags had won at Palace in the league.

Massive result tiday against a very good team and we are moving in the right direction but we still need to tighten defence and hopefully in Jan we work on it . Title is now in our hands ha
We still need to tighten defence? Are you expecting teams to score -1 or -2 against us?

:)

I thought we were really fine one-on-one today — especially the FBs — but we did concede some chances we shouldn’t have. That said, some of their chances were offside.
