Crystal Palace (A) I PL I Post Match Thread

Been a great week to be a blue. Team has still room for improvement, but they’re on fire. Palace away has always been a tough fixture, and this Palace team are their best for years. Cherki is the creator we’ve been missing, and great to see him developing a partnership with the reborn Foden.

Excellent 3 points.

It’s clear the players love Cherki, even in our squad’s quality his creativity stands out.

We are doing well just now and are involved in exciting games but I do think our control would go to a new level if we had Rodri or a Kova in with Nico.

Phil and Cherki love playing together.

I got the feeling that Fodens goal knocked the stuffing out of Palace, and their general play after that goal was rushed, untidy and panicky, they knew we were edging towards the final third of the game ..... they started to misplace passes, and leave huge gaps as they desperately tried to salvage the game knowing full well that a 3rd city goal would definitely mean the end of things for them .... Savinho must have charged from near the halfway line straight through them for that penalty.

Thought we were very sluggish in possession, Nico G got caught a few times. Maybe down to fatigue. I really do hope we can buy a DM in January as the engine room looked slow and we were easy to get through at times.
i agree Nico held the ball for far too long consequently getting picked off, wharton looked head and shoulders better i'm afraid
could do worse than getting him in

I wasn't sure what Pep was trying with the lineup he picked. It all felt quite narrow and condensed with the majority wanting the ball to feet - Palace were always going to snap into us and then counter.

The scoreline flattered us, they created a lot of chances. Take the 3pts and move on. The team did well to stay patient and take their chances. They had 14 shots but only 4 on target, we had 7 with 6 on target. Passing accuracy of 87% was way down too with the players we had on the pitch.

We've got games against Brentford and West Ham where we can possibly rest and rotate, Forest away will be tough and one where we need to be at our best to win it. Sunderland away is tough on paper but with the AFCON they'll be a much different side.

There's definitely an opportunity for us to target the tougher games with the run of fixtures and hopefully keep the winning run going.

The return of Rodri would be a timely boost if there's any chance of that.

All this team needs now is a powerful midfielder. Like Rice, Rogers or Sabosli (spelling) in the Kevin mould. I think it would complete this team and even more so if Rodri can back to his best.. That player will be hard to find.

Nearly all their shots were offside which was a deliberate ploy by City. How many genuine chances did they have? We had 72 per cent possession in the first half. Pep controlled that match. The pure stats do not tell the whole story, I remember United fans claiming we were flattered when we humiliated them tactically and won 3-0 earlier this season.
