Crystal Palace (H) Post Match Thread

Finding it really difficult to see how we are going to recover from this. If we don’t beat Leicester and Southampton, by the time we meet the candle wavers, it will be over.

It won’t though will it?

There’ll be 17 games left. That’s 51 points to play for and if we lose to Leicester and Southampton, Liverpool beat Newcastle and Arsenal and then beat us, the difference will be 13.

It baffles me when football fans make stupid statements.

There’s no way Liverpool will make up 25 points.
Celtic will get hammered in every one of those group games.
We’ve lost in December so it’s over.

You're a bit aggressive, my friend. I didnt say that they were better than any of our midfielders. Read my post again. I said they were more solid in the middle and their midfield recruitment was very good.

The way their midfield is set up means that they are strong both in the middle and out wide. We aren't because we didn't recruit well (again in my opinion). We didn't really need Mahrez in my opinion and games like the Chelsea game could have done with 2 solid midfielders and then Kante would have been tracked properly instead of Leroy doing it.

I used to hold a season ticket and go with my dad if that makes you feel better, then I moved to Holland so it makes it a little harder.

We tried to get a defensive midfielder but missed out ..I agree about Mahrez..

Why Foden did not start today beats me.

A valid point. Why does Pep put more trust in Stones as a CDM than giving Foden a chance and having Gundogan as a pivot? We played against Palace so I don’t see why Gundogan couldn’t handle it. I doubt Foden will start in a league game this season, unless we have sealed our position with games remaining.

Easily the best right back in the Premier League. Sane played well but met his match today. I think Pep underestimated Palace's full backs because we were never going through the middle without Silva and De Bruyne.

I posted earlier in the match thread that I live near Crystal Palace and lately whenever I take my kids to parties and end up passing time by chatting to the other dads about footie the majority are Palace fans as it’s a very condensed localised fan base and they absolutely rave about the kid so I’ve kept my eye on him and he’s impressed me a lot the little I’ve caught of him. Then today he blew my mind.. comfortablely the best player on the park for me and dealt with Sane (who I actually felt was in the mood and was trying to be very direct) which is testimate to how good the lad is... papers were saying a few months ago that Pep is a fan not sure if true but I would imagine he probably in now.

Why did we concede 3? Well, the 2nd was a worldie. The 1st and 3rd were bad defending. Not just the defenders either, Stones was outnumbered in central midfield on a few occasions and our AMs and Wingers didn't pick up the runners. That said, Walker and Otamendi had stinkers today - indeed, they have both been poor this season.
But we still had umpteen corners and 19 chances and only managed to score 2 - Half of what we normally get with that number of chances. Mahrez certainly has to do better.
Not good enough and clearly the Chelsea defeat didn't put enough of a rocket up their arses.
Pep has to take some of the blame too. Surely he now must realise that Stones isn't a DM? Play Gundogan there if he has to.
Fair play to palace though they defended really well and took their chances.

Bad day. It happens. We’ll pick back up.
Been waiting for us to pick up for 8 matches now! The performances are not recovering to anywhere near our normal level. We got away with it for a while, with some easy matches covering our flaws, but now they’re well and truly exposed. The signs are not encouraging.

Have we had our best 11 for them 8 games ? Maybe that could have something to do with it.

Just got back in ,not seen the rest of the comments.
Was talking to a guy in the concourse before the game and when we saw the team selection we were both puzzled as to why Walker was selected given his recent long run of games and lack of form and also hoping that Stones was not going to be played in midfield.
And so it came to pass.
Fcuks sake Pep , if it was so obvious to a couple of your average punters what on earth made you pick that side?

Will make it all the more fun if they don't win it.
For the first time this season I think they have a very decent chance. So have we but after recent defeats to CFC and CPFC we could easily lose again to Liverpool and/or Leicester and that would kill us off.

Last season was a one off, an atypical season. Now we're at one of the crucial moments in a season which will shape its outcome. The important thing for me is that we come out of the January game still in it.
