Crystal Palace (h) post-match thread

Fantastic result made all the better by the red vermin drawing earlier.

I will admit to being depressed a few weeks back, especially after the draw against West Brom. I really thought we'd blown any chance of the title but other teams inconsistency and suddenly knuckling down and grinding out results have turned it around and we are now right back in the mix.

Dias has been huge in that and John Stones......where has he been??? Along with many here I thought he'd had more than enough chances and if we got 30 million for him we should snap someone's hands off. I'm delighted to be proved wrong, please let it continue. The same with Gundogan.

A few weeks ago we seemed to have lost our mojo, that intensity to win and not get beaten, but it's now back. You can see the unity and desire running through the squad once more.

We are ticking along nicely and if our forwards suddenly click again we will run away with this league from here.

People didn’t have to write the team off to see things were off.

Pep had lost his way, looked disinterested etc. But Dias has been a huge addition. Pep seems to have got really hot for defence, he’s always been interested which is testament to our previous records, but the absolute security back there has really, really perked him up... and the whole team.

The great thing for me about Pep is he’s prepared to change his mind and adapt. He’s done it on players, he’s done it on formations. Maybe in hindsight he’s a bit slow to grasp these things... but that’s being human because no one else is there making those choices.

Because he’s so tactically adept, and is prepared to change stance, he’s proving for the idiots (Mail other teams’ fans) that he is a generational manager in charge. Like Messi and Ronaldo though, other teams also have very good managers that can compete using different if not similarly aesthetically mechanics.

Like all top professionals Guardiola has found a way with his tools. Our tools are very good but the cutting edge had been taken away. However he’s again found a way. Hopefully he can move things forward now and capitalise on the deficiencies of other teams and win a 3rd in 4 leagues, because the opportunity is there.
Pep hadn't lost his way - he was using an awful hand of cards dealt him - no pre-season, no real warm up games, Covid and injuries. I said it at the time - we're not robots, we were physically knackered, but we would turn it round. Right now, we're head and shoulders the best team in the league.

All of the above plus the man had just lost his mother to COVID. So it was no wonder he wasn’t on top form. We know we are the Boys in Blue who never give in and we didn’t we are fighting to the end.

Anyone agree that Lee Mason needs to go back to ref school ? The ref is supposed to run in diagonal lines across the pitch to get the maximum visual angle on play. In other words, they're supposed to run to the side of, and away from, play - not on top of it. Mason seemed to be running in circles in the middle of the pitch - forever getting in the way with the ball hitting him more than once. He's not that mobile either.

Until we next draw or lose, then they'll be back calling people "happy clappers".
They wear their 'I'm a harder blue than you happy clappers' with pride.
