Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Some poor showings yesterday, including Mariner who let that GK get away with time wasting from the 1st minute.
Pish poor from Laporte, not great from Dias (ridiculous dive for the build up to the 1st goal)...opposition strikers are sussing Dias out, basically don't commit yourself, wait for Dias to commit himself with some silly dive/lunge then make your move...happened several times yesterday.
Pep blanking Laporte when he walks past him up the tunnel....
Usual stuff from Ederson, poor for their goal then for the offside 1 on 1 with Zaha 2nd half he sticks it through his legs....not good enough as a GK for where we want to be
Not much threat up front, we are lacking a serious presence through the middle, too may times we had breaks down the left and there was nobody in the middle to square it too so it was stop, play it back then to the edge of the box then out wide again...etc etc etc
KDB....used to charge through the middle at pace setting up moves, not happening at the moment
Rodri...ambling back for their 2nd letting the goalscorer run past him into the box
Walker good, Gab worked very hard and was unlucky with the "goal"
Stones was very good when he came on...ta ta Laporte for a bit
Foden lost at sea in the 1st half down the right, much much better on the left in the 2nd...Pep, please note
Thought the noise and atmosphere in the ground was great yesterday, especially in the 2nd half.
Including the CL Final, that's 7 of the last 17 games with no goals...that's getting up to nearly every 2nd game we don't score.....yet we don't need a striker and things are going great with the false nine system...apparently
Leagues are won and lost on days like yesterday

I'm pissed off today :( 4pts dropped at home against a shit Southampton & Palace side almost rules out the brilliant 4pts we got beating Chelsea & drawing with Liverpool Away.

Frustrating games like yesterday piss me off and as soon as they scored I said to my pal we're not coming back.

Anyway back to winning way on Wednesday before travelling to the scum, come on City.

Stones looked sharper coming forward into midfield than KBD did. KDBs passes have been off- simple passes. His pace is a step behind. I fear that he's one of those players who is not going be able to hold off age like some can and is in the early stages of a precipitous decline. Of course- as a City supporter I see the glass not as half empty but shattered to bits. I hope I'm wrong.

The amount of people on here referring to last season as a benchmark for what's going to happen this season, like it's some sort of safety blanket....hugely unlikely it will repeat itself.
And our home form in the league, if you include the end of last season.....not good.

Especially when the season before is just as likely a model, where Liverpool had won it by January.

I'm certainly not going up hope per se, and in some ways out performances against the bigger teams is a good sign for the CL, but that 5 points looks pretty impressive for that Chelsea side. Nevertheless, if any teams can go on a ten game run it is these Liverpool and City sides, but as you say I've not seen much at the end of last season and start of this one to suggest one is coming.

Certainly agree about John Stones. We look a much better team going forward with him because he is our best defender at linking up our defence and midfield/attack. He rarely plays sideways passes he plays straight into dangerous areas. I think he changes the team dynamic and he does the same for England (he carries Maguire). Laporte is only in the team because Pep is still worried about our left side. Looking at Cancello's defensive performance yesterday you can understand why. Not having a proper left back continues to affect the balance of the entire team and limits our options.

I’m calming down a little bit now! I wouldn’t say that we were that bad a team today. After Laporte got sent off (which has been an accident waiting to happen unfortunately but I guess I would say that as John Boy’s most ardent fan!) we were terrified of going near them. When John Boy did come on I felt there was a lot more energy and there was one pass where he took the ball from the opposition player and turned with it before said opponent had even noticed it was gone that left us gasping! Brilliant.

Ok, ok I’m biased but it WAS excellent.
Did a great Cruyff turn shortly after coming on on the touchline...class

Leagues are won and lost over 38 days, not only on days in which you play off the park the top team away from home (Chelsea) or lose vs a bottom half team at home (Palace).

To win 4 league titles over 5 years is extremely difficult anyway. The team will give their best, though, that's for sure.

Not sure how you can tell that, unless you've seen something that I haven't. BBC only showed what PiGMOL wanted them to...
Watched on a stream on my phone he was off on the lines they put down. Not by a lot but they are rules right now.

Would have been a lot more pissed off if the dippers hadn’t dropped 2 points.

Poor performance though and it was a demonstration of the difference between a Pep team and a Mancini team when behind. When we went behind with Mancini we knew that he would throw the kitchen sink at it and we regularly used to turn it round, often with 4 strikers on the pitch by the end. With Pep it always looks less likely. On the other hand we’re in that position a lot less often with Pep.

What a difference a Week makes in football.

A week ago Noddy was on the brink after that comprehensive home humiliation.

A week later we are on a run of 2 defeats, and the Rags are suddenly optimistic once again about turning us over in the Derby.

I personally am not looking forward to this game.

Only for the fact i feel like Pep inexplicably always sets us up in these games to make the Rags look like 1970s Brazil.

Weird team selections.

Did not go to the game and gave all tickets away so they not empty. Think I have missed 2 allready now? Just not feeling it this season. Little things like the stupid adverting boards and loss of seats, the piss poor management of fans and access. Shite atmospheres and biggest of all the arrogance of going into the season with no striker!

A cdm is what messed us up on the final. Midfield was way too open. Nothing to do with a lack of striker

mate if we don't get someone who's sole job is to put the ball in the onion soon we won't be winning nothing.
