He shouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI now. He simply isn't up to the job any more. Which isn't his fault. Time (and injuries) wait for no man. Not even him. The performance against Palace (irony alert!) a few weeks ago was clearly the exception these days, and not the rule. I hope he gets a brilliant goodbye on tuesday night; he's been an outstanding player for us. Possibly the best in the Pep era (though Rodri fans might argue about that!). But he should only be coming on for the last 10 minutes or so, and that's provided we're fairly comfortable.

Yes, that's pretty much my take on it. We deserved to win (never been a fan of the theory that the side that managed to scrape a win by hanging on after getting battered for most of the match were "deserved winners"), but hey ho.

TBH I would have rather we had played the second string and saved the team for the two final matches, especially after the Villa and Chelsea results. Getting into the CL is far more important to the club going forward than winning the FA Cup, especially from a financial point of view.

Disappointing and frustrating that missed penalties continue to haunt for season after season. Every time we get a penalty I rate the chances of scoring about 50% at best.

Not a certain like with Yaya Toure or Balotelli ?

Surely, in a squad of world class players it must be possible to identify a penalty taker or two to practice every day for a couple of hours to almost guarantee success on match day?
