Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.
For as long as I can remember, if the keeper deliberately handles the ball outside the area it's a red card. It's akin to an outfield player catching the ball. The "denial of goalscoring opportunity" stuff is a red herring designed to gaslight City fans IMO.

Not really surprising when the state broadcaster is openly supporting the opposition and fuelling the narrative that everyone wanted Palace to win.

In any event, if Henderson doesn't handle it, I think Haaland would have got there first.

Relatively neutral here, A TEAM beat a collection of individuals yesterday. There's a photo on facebook of Foden, his Mrs and one of his son's all glammed up for some event or other. Doubt there's similar of Palace players. Too much
celebrity status, has it all gone to there heads?
Bollocks if a player is say chasing a ball down with an opponent and the defender hacks the player down as he bears down on goal that’s a denial of a goal scoring opportunity, he doesn’t need to have control he just needs to be close enough to it, that defender woukd get a straight red, the keeper di exactly that by hitting the ball away with his hand, had Haaland got it and rounded him bevause he was on the edge of the box it was an empty net, it’s the clearest red card you’ll see, I’ll love to see what ref watch says about this and if PGMOL issues an apology I’ll be fucking fuming as you’ll know it’s a huge fuck up and those officials shoukd be sacked for incompetence.

The joys of British fucking rail. Get up at the crack of dawn to catch the first Manchester train and all I hear at Euston is all services seem.to.be delayed due to engineering works not being finished on time.
Think it’s lack of signal operators

Why did pep change playing Nunes and Nico O’reilly at full back??. It was working absolutely fine and we change it to accommodate fucking Akanji. He’s mega pissed me off this season Pep. I honestly think any other manager would have been sacked.

Because he gets bored of playing the same system & players and feels the need to change things neeslessly to prove what a genius he is.

Also, as seems to be the case with most managers there is an unspoken hierarchy whereby players are picked based on seniority and reputation rather than form.

Nunes has been one of our best players since our mini-run after Forest away. Madness to drop him and bring Haaland straight back in like he has.

I'm telling you right now there will be no apology. It's already forgotten about.

Wake up to this utter bollocks.

Just send the handball.

Why is the linesman so far behind play ?

How can var get such a simple red card wrong ?

This match is seen all over the world yet the authorities are happy to show their corruption to the world, knowing there's no come back on them. This can't not be right.

Say what you like about Eddie he is an honest keeper and would have tried to head the ball.

Haven't seen the game just highlights which funnily enough don't show this handball.

I don't care people saying we had enough changes to win. The rules of the game should be applied for the whole 90 minutes of the game

Check out Spurs and the Rags manager's

If you can’t play because you’re injured all the time then you’re worse than average I suppose as you’re offering precisely nothing for vast swathes of the season.
By that argument Rodri is shit......

Every one of your points can be refuted very easily.

Why are players struggling for personal or professional reasons?
Why is the team not at a good level?
Why has the team dropped off a cliff that took us 15 years to climb?
Why are new players not good enough?
Why are wingers awful?
Why have we run out of steam?
How do you know that Pep has changed his 2 thirds philosophy, and is now telling them how to walk the ball into the net?
Why is every individual awful?
"Let's see" is not going to cut the mustard for Khaldoon.

Every one of the points you make can be answered by "Pep is over coaching the players"
I have never seen a drop off of this magnitude in a football team before.
The reasons are because the squad of players are all fucked in the head and body, or the manager is.
Which one are you thinking is the most likely?
All those opinions, fine. I disagree, but they are yours and you are entitled to them.

But you have never seen a drop off of this magnitude before? Fucking really?

There are too many to even begin listing, and we are nowhere near them.

We lost a final. But we DID reach a final ffs. We did not win the league, but we are still in amongs the top and not below mid table.

Something previous dropoffs have not managed

Tbf A one off injury is a bit different from a player who gets recurring injuries
depends by which metric you measure it really.

Personally I don't think being injured makes you an average player. It might affect you effectiveness in the team/squad, but not your actual ability to play the game.

It's boring as all shit. I'd prefer us to be aggressive, fast and more direct. We lost a cup today playing pass the ball backwards and sideways.
Yep - with the wrong players - but many can't see that.
I wonder if Khaldoon (who knows his footy and is no slouch himself) sits there and is as complacent about the ability and standard of Pep's bonkers lineups as a lot of the fans - or is he perplexed and fuming inside - or is it really the "Pep's the best in the business" he can fck up whenever he wants mantra, hes granted by so many on here?
I get he's got "money in the bank "after what he's achieved - but some of the decisions since Istanbul have been self-destruct incompetence.

Fair point.
