Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

It was a huge mistake. The fact that they’ve ‘omitted’ to show the footage on the highlights package shows it. The club should be asking for the audio and kicking up a bit of a stink. The BBC commentators had access to the VAR audio and Gillet said he was going too wide for it to be considered DOGSO. That was wrong and the only reason it went bit wider was because the keeper punched it. PIGMOL owe us a public apology

What I don't get is that they gave nothing and deemed it ok ? Clearly, Henderson handles the ball outside the box; there is no doubt because it's a good yard outside the box, So clearly a free kick must be awarded and a red card shown to Henderson, Even the Palace fans could not complain because it's clearly outside the box

Also, what has Haaland got to do with the VAR replay, It's clearly Henderson who touches and knocks the ball wide
so Haaland is still in a great place to score,

Unfortunately I was thinking that on the 10 or so hour journey home. I didn't see the incident at the time (well I did, but didn't realise it was that the VAR was on for as the game was stopped at the other end of pitch). From my view it just looked like Erling took a ridiculously heavy touch.

I hated the fact we got Twatwell from the get-go with his history against us. The offside goal and now this are two of the worst and most costly decisions that have gone against us. You could tell he didn't want to give the pen either. Took an age to give it and think he was probably coerced into giving it by his earpiece. Then made Omar wait an eternity to take it for no apparent reason which felt like it was a calculated way to increase his levels of anxiety. Despise the guy.
I mentioned the same thing about the penalty yesterday.
He really didn't want to give it and then the amount of time he made Omar wait wasn't an accident.
Even Haaland cottoned onto it by waving his arms and yelling at the ref to get on with it.
Like i've said officials are only humans, but as so must read the media which is permanently negative against all things Manchester City.
There must be a connection, just in the same way the rags get ludicrous decisions go for them (the Bournemouth red card being the latest one) being media darlings.
It needs sorting out if only for the integrity of the sport.

Thats Pep's way fluid forward line..for contractural reasons i imagine we have to play big Erl...so not suited to a Pep style. Interesting to read peps autobiography in years to come what he really thought of big erl's signing. Commercial first football 2nd i fear. We are so much better as a team when he's injured truth be told
Yeah I wonder that about his contract myself. You've got to have the right system for Haaland. He's pretty useless in this setup when we don't have enough creativity to feed him with through balls or out wide with crosses. Considering he's signed a long term deal we need to get players that suit him because feed him and he's a machine.

But we had a winning formula this season and we've effectively changed it at the wrong time for 2 players and it's messed everything up. It could cost us CL football if we don't get it together for 2 games.

I think the treble season was built on Pep deciding that he could win games with fewer big chances if we controlled the ball because we had the most lethal striker on the planet and the most lethal creater of chances of his generation. Erl has slowed down and Kev is done. We need to create a wider variety and quality of chances and rebalance how we set up in attack while maintaining control. I don't think that's as easy as some make it out to be, given the relative quality of the league, but I think Pep is a genius who can work that out and I trust him more than anyone. I don't know if the world cup is a perfect experimental lab for us or a terribly timed interruption. Onwards.

We lost for 3 simple reasons, another unfathomable decision from the officials (why did the lino not flag btw, we’d at least have had the free-kick if nothing else), another incredulous decision this time Haaland deciding not to take the penalty, and finally all our best chances falling to the wrong players on their wrong foot. Mostly we played ok.

Yet another dig at Grealish eh..give it a rest
By the way ..do you actually go to the games..
Living in Cornwall no.

Backing tge 80's and 90,s yes I did...season ticket holder in the dark days....why does it matter?
I mention Grealish as he is the other alternative to the player you are criticising...the one player who at least tries something different

Life is too short to be that angry about football pal.
****************** City under Pep.
* Palace yesterday.

That’s trophies. Every now and then you get a club who has won nothing or very little and they spring a surprise. We’d have loved to have been like that if we hadn’t been taken over. They deserve their moment. We have moments, plural.
All true but the narrative against us means even no mark club fans have been brainwashed to hate us. It’s a siege mentality but it helps me enjoy others failure. We’ve done things others will never do but until we quash this 115 bollox we have never been allowed to fully enjoy it.

we used to play triangles with wingers and midfielders to create space now their doubled up on and everyone else stood watching.

Yep

Why not play the ball into Haaland's feel on the edge of the box and have runners off the back of him

We've got too many tier 2 players as it is, but people cry when you point this out.
The wingers are an obvious example: Sterling was as frustrating as fuck, yet he contributed significantly more than Doku, Savinho and Nunes. Leroy Sane and Mahrez were also better than what we currently have.
Current players look good in flashes but in the past we had players putting in top performances week after week after week.
It's not all down to the wingers though. Doku had two defenders with him every time he got the ball but was forced to cut back or cross with his weaker foot, and it was a similar story for Savinho. Palace could just get goal-side of our players to block everything.
Yup exactly which is why I've been saying the lack of creativity centrallyvis a huge problem and has been all season and possibly a bit longer....kdb can no longer do it and neither can Gundogan

A genius would have realised the problems and rectified them. He bought in January and we are still shit and he is making the same mistakes. He needs to go, if we as fans knew full well how yesterday would go then it is crazy that he didn't. A team having none of the ball, creating very little but still beating us is nothing new at all this season. That comes from the man calling the shots.

It felt gutless and nearly as bad as that Wigan day, Foden needs to not play another minute. As does KDB, the sympathy minutes he has received could prove costly to us. He keeps trusting the same players that have let him down all season. Not winning is one thing, not turning up and seemingly not care for two cup finals, with one against your rivals is criminal. Haaland trying to get the crowd going after the disallowed goal was fucking laughable. How about you get involved in the game and have a bit of bottle, do your job and take a pen. I don't even want top 5 at this point, they don't deserve it in the slightest

We'll be fine either way. A year out of the champions league isn't going to stop our progression.
I don't agree...the squad needs overhauling not just tweeking. There is very few players in this squad that are the level of our best teams in the last 10 years...infact I'd go yo say there are about 5 with a few prospects thrown in

A massive mistake selling Alvarez and relying solely on Haaland up front who is a good finisher but has the first touch of my nan
Sold two days after CS win (I know he was not involved), and two days later Bobb breaks his leg.

Still window wide open but they probably though we had done it without a striker before, but in those days we had a lot of pace in the front 5/6.

Absolutely needs an overhaul, which will happen regardless on the next two weeks.

That last sentence - did you say that after his first season, I wonder?

Watch some replays from that season again - especially before the world cup break, as we were learning to really exploit him - we just don't use him the same way now. The other teams can't believe their luck that we waste him the way that we do.

When posters here talk about other strikers, it's usually based upon their numbers, so why don't we give Haaland more credit for his?
He either does fuck all and scores or he does fuck all

Dear o dear ? The only person that needs to go is yourself and get some help and leave supporting our great club and manager to those who really give a shit

Have a nice day mr grumpy ! U sound like a spoilt child who has been told he cannot play out

Crosses is Haaland's Kryptonite ..he is literally shit in the air for a big forward..thats why he goes for those weird, stretching kung fu kicks..nearly opened the scoring yesterday with that.. Haaland would be great for a side like Palace or Wolves..good at sitting deep and have players who can ping one over the top...he is prerty limited elsewhere on the pitch

The standards set by winning 4 in a row and a treble with prime players like kdb is not sustainable nor infinite.

Let it go blues.

Football has been conquered by the blue machine.

Time for a reset and rebuild.

No one is to blame.

How fast we get back on top will depend on recruitment.

Accept the situation, denial and anger is useless.
