I remember when we lost the '81 cup final against Spurs and I was totally devastated. I was 16 at the time and City were my life. Roll on 30 odd years to last year's cup final against Wigan and the defeat didn't hurt nearly as much which surprised me.

I don't know if it's because I have mellowed with age or that we had won the cup and the league in the previous two seasons, or that I feel that we will win it again pretty soon. Maybe it was that Wigan are a small team (with due respect) or maybe it's because I liked Martinez as a manager.

I was wondering if any of you of a similar age (I'm 48 now) experienced the same feelings?

I was at the draw in '81 (not the replay though; I was only 18 and couldn't afford it). I was also lucky enough to be at Wembley last May and it seems like the Wigan game hurt more. Maybe because I was at the game that we lost, unlike in '81. I just had this numb, empty feeling at the final whistle. I suppose it would have been easier if we'd played to even 50% of our potential, but Wigan played us off the pitch and it wasn't any great surprise when the daywalker struck. I think most blues were hoping for extra time and penalties at that stage.

I only went to the Saturday game in the 81 game an watched the replay on TV. I don't recall being too gutted at that age.

Last year I was fucking fuming at the total unprofessional performance from the players and the Mancini story leaking.

It was a very poor day for me.

i remember 81 like it was yesterday as a skool boy i suffered a rollercoaster of emotions that day, followed by knightmares of ozzie and villa laughing (made that bit up,lol) i actually cried when that villa goal went in,
1st game remembered for tommys header, was dumbstruck by his goal and then his own goal at other was heartbreaking

Wigan battered us on the day and they were a small team who will never get there again. No problem with the pie eaters taking the glory that day, we live to fight another season.

The spurs game was my one and only visit to wembley and i was gutted
The wigan match was really disappointing but i was more caught up with everything else that was going on with the sacking etc so i wasn't too bothered we didn't win it

I was really upset as well, and grew up hating Spurs.

Wigan wasn't as bad, as we knew we would be back and we had just won the FA Cup and League

The final against Spurs hurt more, probably because we outplayed them in the first game.Mckenzie went around their keeper and hit the post and that would have been 2-0 and game over,as it was they flujed an equaliser and the rest is history.I knew they would have too much for us in the replay and so it proved. It hurt more because i knew it may be years before we got to another final and so it proved.

Wigan, well i had a funny feeling they would win it before the game. All the shit surrounding Mancini just made that feeling even stronger. After twenty minutes i knew it wasn't going to be our day.Was i gutted? No.Why?Because who could begrudge Wigan their day out and a taste of glory? We should hopefully have many more but i sincerely hope that is the last time we lose one!
