Downs syndrome has got nothing to do with mental illness for a start.

Moot point.

The OP is making a serious point, one with which the vast majority will agree with.

Stupid, crass comments like yours aren't really welcome, and they only serve to demonstrate the small-mindedness that the OP rightly pointed out.

Grow up.

Wow are you mad he's pointing out the ignorance of the muppets. Sometimes I fucking despair with the busy cunts on here.

I'm not beign a busy **** pal.

The OP made a perfectly valid point about the use of offensive references to mental illnesses and such, and volunteered information about a family member with Down's Syndrome.

Corky still thought it appropriate to make his point. And it was a thoughtless point. Admittedly, this is an internet forum where pretty much anything goes, but even so, I thought it was a silly post, and I said so.

If I was in a shop, or a pub, or anywhere, and I heard someone make that sort of crass comment just after someone else had complained about exactly that sort of comment, I would stand up and make my voice heard. That doesn't make me a Super-Hero, or a busy ****. Just a normal, decent person with a sense of right and wrong.

The op was on about eduction. It is a very relevant point.

Yet the thread is offensive in itself if mental illness and learning disabilities are seen as the same thing.

It is highly likely a lot of footballers have mental illnesses, like a large minority of people in all work places do.

Not to get into it but an extra chromosome affects the brains abilities so technically it does in a lot of cases.

The issue is regular use of these phrases such as "tevez is a mongo" etc...it's disgusting and needs stopping.

I disagree, the majority of people don't actually know what the word means. Most people use it as another word for saying you're stupid or an idiot. It dosnt mean they are going out to offend anyone with any condition, calling someone a "mongo" is just a normal thing in the uk today as another word for idiot.

Do Downs Syndrome afflicted people have learning disabilities? They can read, write, hold down a job, act, cook, fuck in fact anything anyone else can do.

Corky was trying to say that it is incorrect to affiliate Down's Syndrome with mental illness. You said the point was crass, and I can't work out why. I was trying to put a lid on a thread full of misinterpretation.

Yes they all do, even though the term isn't the most welcome.

To be fair mate, that's probably the best way forward for this thread. I don't really think anyone on this one is trying to cause offence, it's just got out of hand a touch.

Perhaps put this one to bed.

Agreed, intentions were all good. I'm pretty sure the original offence has been dealt with anyhoo.

I've only ever met 4 Down Syndrome people and have found them quick, erudite and pretty pithy, I've known many more "normal" (sorry for that term) to be be thick as pig shit and downright rude. Apologies if my terminology is incorrect.

Just press therapist button, I edited out an offensive word earlier, was going to act further but thought the fact he'll have seen his post shrink he'll get the message.
