Dad city one week united other

my dad did'nt but i went to ot a couple of times and sometimes to the reserves.
i remember going to a european tie once, i think united won about 9-0 v waterford. its odd how football was in those days, you just wanted to watch good players, bobby charlton, best and nobby stiles were great to watch.other teams too had great players and you viewed them without the bitterness of today, of course they were good guys too not tossers like wio and rat boy.
throughout the league we had the likes johnny giles, john charles, ian callaghan, and jimmy greaves.

lucky we were.

My dad lived in London when he first moved from Ireland around 1959 and would regularly watch both Spurs and Arsenal...when he moved to Gorton in 1961 he went to Old Trafford once and Maine Road the next week...never went back to the swamp again...he hated the place and became a season ticket holder at City for the rest of his time in Manchester...some 30 odd years. He always said City fans were a better bunch to hang out with and that all the reds he knew were 'arrogant arseholes'...his words.

my Dad did both but he told me thats what happened in the late 50 and 60's.
He is a massive blue and i have him to thank for making me blue..!!!

Both dad and grandad followed both. Grandad lived in Gorton and he can remember many of his school pals doing the same.

I think it died out by the early seventies when clubs began to become more polarised with their fanbase. I would be suprised if anyone regularly went to both nowadays.

My dads grandads side where big united fans as is my uncle but my nana is a blue so my dad supported city because he felt sorry for her getting all the shit in the house.. My dad went to every home and away when he was young and goes every home game now,my uncle has never been to a game in his life :-)

I moved over to live with my brother (a red) and his wife when aged 18 or so, they lived in Newton le Willows and we decided that he would would come to Maine Road with me and I would go to the swamp with him, all went well till they won the first 10 games of the season and we won sod all....agreement ended when they won 3-0 at Maine Road......
he never goes now......

I am 55, born and bred in Salford and very much the black sheep of a United supporting family. I was taken to my first City game V Birmingham April 30th 1966, I stood on the Kippax and City won 3-1 Bell Young & Crossan were the scorers. Once the family knew I was into football I was taken by various Uncle's to the swamp to watch most of their matches too but nothing compared to City and in particular Maine Road. I just went to see United get beat which didn't go down well with my Uncles and after one goal against United I remember bursting out laughing which resulted in my Uncle Ralph shouting at the top of his voice in the Paddock " City fan here " after getting a few stray boots all settled down, I was only 10 !
It was football that was in the blood and when a southern cousin came to stay with us for a couple of years we went on a football bender watching at least 3 or 4 games a week, City, United, Rochdale Oldham, Bury and Stockport but despite of all the different football we watched there was only one passion and that was my beloved Blues.

City till I die

my old fella is a scum. lucky for me he never brainwashed me like i do with my kids, although the first game i ever went to was utd v norwich at old tafford, we stood in the stretford end. i feel dirty at the thought.

Good thread this

My dad was brought up in Stretford and as a City fan, went to both, I've got a loft full of programmes from both teams from about 1955-66.

All the United programmes have the token missing though, he used to pay to get in (kid's price) buy a programme, sneak out under the turnstile, sell the programme (for the token) and pay to go back in again, over and over again - no wonder United's attendances were so high, ha ha
