Fernando Torres is ready to help Liverpool in Sunday's showdown against fourth-placed rivals Manchester City.

Reports in Spain suggest Liverpool's £21million record signing will be on the bench for the crucial Eastlands showdown after making a swift recovery from a knee injury.

Rafa Benitez will resist starting with Torres, amid fears of aggravating his injury in a match that could have a considerable bearing on who finishes fourth in the Barclays Premier League and claims the final place in next season's Champions' League.

Team-mate Yossi Benayoun will have a late fitness test.

The Israel international has recovered from a broken rib which has sidelined him since January 13, but did not feature in Thursday's Europa League victory over Unirea Urziceni because of a back problem.
