Didn't Damocles say Balotelli was the third best player in the world?

If he did then he's not right at all.
Too right, Suarez is third.

I remember having a conversation with a fellow blue who said Jo was the real deal after scoring his debut goals playing in the UEFA Cup and I said he was wrong because his first touch was bad, he looked lazy, wasn't strong enough and he never seemed to be in the right place when a goal scoring opportunity came. After we bought Balotelli he said he was a waste of money but I told him wait till you see him wear a blue shirt. He was still not convinced after his debut goal in the Europa Cup and his 2 goals against WBA. He said he was like another Jo. Sometimes you despair at the stupidity of your fellow blues but finally he admitted he was wrong about Jo and he now admits he was wrong about Balotelli. Jo was an expensive mistake and Balo is sheer class and even now one of the best players in the world. I look forward to all the adventures he is going to take us on over the coming years.

I don't think it's a matter of who is wrong or right. It's merely patience that people lack, some are too quick to judge both for the good or bad without giving any time for the player to really settle in to the squad. It's not Fifa on the PS3 (Or Xbox, whatever your preference).

For instance, look at Dzeko. Look at the huge improvement since he first arrived, even if you don't like him still you can't really argue with his goal scoring rate at the minute. Same with James Milner, he's been brillaint so far this season.

It's all about a level of maturity

When you have been around for a while and you really take an interest in your football you are not very quick to pass judgement, you always realise that sometimes you have to wait for things to develop. Some people want everything now, if a player was so good he would be good now, forgetting that a new team and a new country really takes time

I remember that post I thought Damocles was related to Mario the way he explained how fucking good a player the lad was/is/and going to be. Can anyone find it.

The song, the antics and the goals. Love ya Mario

These?

I've had a few "moments of awesomeness" over the past few months. AJ scoring his first goal for England and playing so well, MJ sprinting quickly in training, Kompany's ascension as a first team CB, etc. All moments that give you a fuzzy feeling and remind you why you love this infuriating game so much.

I have 4 players who I know will be our bedrock in the future, and I seem to care about more than others. MJ for obvious reasons, AJ because the kid CAN be one of the really top footballers in the world if he works at it and is a young English lad, Kompany because he's probably the most intelligent footballer I've ever seen and is another who will be the absolute best in the world in a few years.

Finally, there's Balotelli. I remember watching his first ever appearance for Inter and seeing an arrogant kid with all of the potential in the world. I watched as the Juve and Inter fans wrecked him over there, how he started acting out because of it, and how Mourinho basically told him that he's finished as a footballer. Him coming to City is the most exciting transfer for me since the takeover. Keep your Robinho deals, your Tevez deals, your Yaya deals, to me this was the one that I really wanted. When Mancini came, half of my enthusiasm about it was that I KNEW that Balo would follow.

This kid is a special talent, and without the constant abuse that he received in Italy, we'll see a world star here. I'm talking about one of those guys who will be mentioned in 50 years time when they are talking about the best players of their generation. The guy has absolutely everything about his game, everything.

It's well known and has been argued forever about how I class the best player in the world. I class Rooney above Messi and Ronaldo simple because I class versatility above tricks. Rooney could play happily anywhere from CB to ST and do it well. There are no weaknesses in his game, and I think that that makes him the best football player in the world. Others disagree with my rating system, but that's how I do it.

Anyway, on my rating system, Balo has the potential to be the absolute best, above Rooney.

His tackling isn't great and he's very much a striker when he defends. That's the only bad point of his game that I can think about.

His development will be the most interesting player development we've ever seen. He truly does have the potential to be a Ronaldo type winger, or a Drogba type striker. He could be the absolute best at either of these roles, depending on how we build him.

I can't wait to see him in a City shirt again, playing regularly. This guy could grow to become a hero that we'll be telling our kids about. The troubled young genius who made his move to us and spearheaded our success with an air of fire, arrogance and pure unadulterated talent. I remember him playing in one of his first ever CL games for Inter. He was playing at Old Trafford and the crowd was pretty heavy that night as Ronaldo was been his usual cuntish, sneering self. I specifically remember Ronaldo trying a little trick, then Balo nearly putting him in the third tier, taking the ball off of him, charging down the wing, beating Evra using a little shoulder drop then hitting the post. At the end of that game, Balo went and asked Ronaldo for his shirt. When he refused, he said "Don't worry, you'll be asking for mine in a few years" and walked off. Let me reiterate, this was pretty early in his career but not only did he have the arrogance but also the talent to back it up.

These types of players either end up wrecking their career ala Robinho, or turn into absolute greats ala Ronaldo. Mark my words, this kid will be a £50m player after the next World Cup.

That's the thing that I tried to convey though; I've watched him since he first burst on the scene now and I still think that of him. People will remember my Tevez Jury thread from just after he first signed; I'm not one to get carried away unnecessarily with players.

However, in my mind, Balo is has the ability to be on a completely different level to most players in the world. Just as Mourinho is the first of a new breed of manager, Balo can be the first of a new breed of player.

I'll reiterate, mark my words with this one, the kid's absolute dynamite.

If Balotelli were English, everybody would be saying "Wayne who?"

why how much does Balotelli pay for a sh*g

Zero, he's a bit of a ladies man is our Mario.

I know that some are reading into this as building up a player to an impossible level, but I disagree on this point. I posted years ago about certain players who I've been watching and continue to watch closely because I believe that they have fantastic futures.

At the time, my list was:

Luiz and Di Maria from Benfica
Jovetic from Fiorentina
Balotelli from Inter
Mbia from Marseille
Breno from Munich

Breno has just gotten a bad injury and isn't really developing in the way that I thought he would. Luiz is just fantastic and I have deep regrets that City didn't sign him in the summer. Mbia will get there eventually and he's developing well at Marseille especially since he moved to CB. Di Maria went to Madrid, and Jovetic was looking very promising until his cruciate injury.

These are players who I had either heard about from mates, or noticed myself when watching the footy. We as a group of lads are obsessed with footy and we all tend to watch different leagues, and I particularly like the Italian league.

Anyway, from this list, I always had Balo pegged as the future star. Di Maria was Ronaldo like, but he seemed to lack the physicality to truly fit the Premiership. Breno and Luiz are both defenders, and Mbia has moved back from midfield. Jovetic looks the part but I never got the impression that he worked well under pressure from players, he needs space to recieve the ball, not unlike a Gourcoff.

Balo on the other hand came on to the scene and seemed to get better with every game he played. His touch is something of beauty, he's fiery, he's full of power and will hit a ball hard enough to break your hand but still has the silkiness of the tricky players. Some of these young, powerful wingers just barge their way past you, whilst the wingers who are more slight use their tricks rather than physicality. Balo uses his tricks to knock the ball past you, then his strength to beat you to it. To nick a phrase, he can float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.
He can not only receive the ball, but hold up two defenders whilst he's doing it, turn them and crack a 80mph shot away on goal.

His problem is down to maturity. Nothing in football has ever made me as angry as the fucking Juve fans have and what they did to Balo. To me, it looked like they were wrecking his career, and he was responding badly to it and started acting out. This eventually put his own fans and then his own manager on his back. I honestly thought that we had seen the end of a potentially special, special player.

I'm not only delighted that we have signed him, I'm delighted as a football fan that we can see this talent develop properly. Mancini will play him. He can see what I and the other guys who have watched him can see.

I'm not saying that he will come on the scene and bang in 40 goals. But he will make you get off your seat, and you will love him. In return, the kid will find his maturity, bask in his adoration, and pay us back for every piece of support that we give him.

He will test our patience as fans at times because he is a bit of a dumb kid still. But his talent is stratospheric and after 20 games starting in a City shirt, you guys will see what the fuss is about.

I'm just going to add in this video of him against Juve as it highlights a few things. Firstly, this is him in one single game, not cherrypicked moments from across a season.

In this, you can see his skill, his power, his eye for a goal, his deadball skill which I hope will translate into top crossing ability, his individual flair and his ability to spot a pass. Also pay attention to his first touch. Finally, it also gives you an idea of what I meant when I said that he was definitely targeted by oppositions as somebody to kick the shit out of.

Reading that back, I was quite enthusiastic about him when he first joined :)
