Danilo (signed for Juve)

He dropped a changer against Newcastle Utd and put Fernandinho under pressure, cue penalty, and thereafter, save for coming on in the semi-final, he never featured there again. With 3 potential left-backs, he won’t be used there, but if he couldn’t displace Walker when he was tired and erratic, will he do so this season after Walker has had a proper rest? Similarly, will Walker improve even further if he suspects his challenger won’t permanently oust him?

Watched it a few times subsequently, and while Fernandinho should have put his foot though it and not turned, Danilo should never have played the ball back to him in the first place. He did so because he was less comfortable shifting the ball on to his left foot. It’s all very well being able to come inside on the right, but he struggles to stay on the outside on his left. Guardiola immediately turned to Laporte in the next two league games (Everton/Arsenal), but again his lack of forward instinct hamstrung us and Guardiola ultimately turned to Zinchenko against Chelsea. Save for coming on for Mendy against Brighton, when again he could offer nothing on that side, Danilo never featured at left back again and not that often elsewhere either.

I like him as a right back, don’t get me wrong, but Guardiola clearly has reservations, and if Danilo has intimated that he’s unhappy with his playing time, then perhaps a parting would be best.

Danilo a very good option as reserve RB, and a decent one at reserve LB. I thought his reaction at the end of the Liverpool home game this season was very telling - he went bananas. Think this was because it was probably the first really big game he'd played in all the way through. And he had a good game too.

I'd definitely keep him unless he wanted to go, obviously.

Pep's picking Zinchenco, Laporte and Delph in front of Danilo at LB should give you a clue.
And now going out and buying Angeliño too, think we need to accept that the idea of him being a two-sided fullback was optimistic.

Dont remember him getting a game tbf
Delph with 49 appearances in the last two seasons, Danilo with 56.

I think Danilo is a very solid player for us who would start at all but seven or eight clubs in the world, but I also think he suffers from what I call 'Jack Wilshere Syndrome', where a player barely plays for long periods of time due to injury or something else and as we watch the player who's in his position (in this case Walker) play inconsistently or below par we build the first player up in our heads to be better than they actually were. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is an amazing example of this, Liverpool fans have for some reason decided he's KDB-esque and his return will push them to the title.
