I am sitting in a quiet moment reading these posts and being reminded again of what a very special man Danny was, and also how many people’s lives he was a significant part of. I don’t think he would have had any idea how important he was to so many of us and how much he will be missed.
I have had the privilege of being a friend and colleague of Danny’s since 1987 and me, my wife and my ‘lads’ (as Danny called them) are all devastated by his passing. We also have Jackie and her ‘lads’ and their families constantly in our thoughts.
I have to confess that I am posting on this site as an outsider, but I know how much City and his friends at the club came to mean to him. Danny has spent a few years trying to convert me to become a blue, including getting me tickets for games and supplying a temporary scarf, and now and again inviting me to go and watch games over a pint if he happened to be in Lancaster when a game was on that he couldn’t get to.
Danny was even prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice of going to an occasional Leeds game with me, I think in the hope that I might recognise that one of our teams was playing football and the other was trying to play football!
He was partially successful and did get as far as making me only really ever watch premiership games on SKY if City are playing, and always keeping an eye on the City results. I guess having City as my second and adopted team is tribute to his tenacity!
Danny has had a much wider impact on mine and many people’s lives, through his personal and professional life, and as we prepare to say goodbye tomorrow it is with a whole range of emotions.
His family, and friends from wherever he made them, were so very important to him and along with all these posts I add my condolences to all his family and friends.
I never bought my own City scarf and wouldn’t offend Danny by wearing a Leeds one tomorrow but in tribute I will always remember him when I hear his friends at City supporting his team!
See you soon mate!
