Where are we up to with his contract?

It runs out in the summer and he hasn't signed a new one yet. Has he been offered one? Has he rejected an offer?

I'd be gutted to see him leave on a free.

He is under 24 so we would receive a fee for him. There has been all sorts of rumours regarding him being offered anything from 12k to 30k, but I don't think anyone knows the truth. He has said he wants to stay at City, so I guess we will see if this is true very soon.

As well as offer an appropriate contract I think Hughes also needs to make it clear to Sturridge that he has a future by selling and clearing out or loaning out the deadwood strikers that we still have on the books.

I don't think that Sturridge needs to worry about what happens to the so called 'deadwood strikers' that we have. That's a totally seperate issue to his contract renewal.

If he decides against signing a contract and goes to another club, the fee will be decided by a tribunal if the clubs can't agree a fee.

Hughes has said he couldn't understand why the situation was allowed to develop in the first place.

Why? Is it his fucking fault that his contract was not extended before it got down to the final year!

I'm pretty confident that he'll resign.

He wants to stay, we have tons of money, problem solved.

Unless...he holds the club to ransom and wants a ridiculous salary, which will create a major problem.
