Caretaker manager and all playing staff sacked. Looks like the end.

Sacked?

By the administrator, details still coming out but looks like the 1st team have certainly all been fired.

Oh, ok. I thought they got sacked for doing something wrong!!!!

Shame.

Have been there, cracking stadium even if empty. They will follow Rushden & Diamonds another fine facility that they couldn't fill. And now Kettering town who took over the stadium appear to be following the same path. The common factor with all is a chairman who is deluded.George Reynolds at Darlington, Ladak at Kettering who hired and fired Gazza.Griggs at Rushden who moved his Doc Martens factory to China and took his sponsorship money with him. Kettering town the first team to have a sponsors name on the shirt.Kettering tyres if I remember correctly worn by player manager Derek Dougan.

They need about £80,000 a month to stay afloat, apparently it's their stadium which is killing them, the cost of upkeep is too high for the amount of fans they bring in. Sad really.

I know its not our repsonsibilty, but surely premier league clubs who waste a shameful amount of money on dross can help clubs like this out for such a small amount. thats £4000 per month per prem club.

I went to Darlington a couple of years back to watch Droylsden in the FA Cup. The stadium would grace the premier league. I'd be sorry to see them go as I would any club.

The only problem is today it's Darlington tomorrow it's someone else then another club and so on. It is strange to think that what is deemed pennies in the premier league (£80,000) could keep a club that's existed for over a hundred years alive for a month. Tis the crazy world of football though.

Shame to see whats happening to Darlington, hope some kind of rescue package can be put together to save them???.........

Well they reckon Mario is going to save them :/

They got screwed over by the local council also. Cancelled an entertainment licence to put on concerts and wouldn't even allow them to hold a regular car boot sale in the car park ffs.

As people have said, the ground wouldn't look out of place in the PL, better than Blackpools by far.

At some point s*** will hit the fan and the wages of footballers and staff is going to have to be cut. Of course players do deserve to compensated for any revenue they bring in, so they do deserve to be well off people. So many clubs are in huge debt now and it is only going to get worse.

Sounds good in principle, but could United afford to pay £4,000 a month ;)

Why do they need a stadium like that, they couldn't even fill the old one they had. Not exactly a highbury to emirates or the dell to st mary's situation.

I think this is their 3rd time in administration...... there are great models about of clubs run by fans that went under - Halifax and Chester for example. Fans who formed their own clubs and retained the ''old team's'' stadium and have gone from strength to strength.
Darlington fans may wish to drop a few leagues down and start a fresh, debt free - but clearly not in that white elephant of a stadium.
