Shame to see whats happening to Darlington, hope some kind of rescue package can be put together to save them???.........

I think this is their 3rd time in administration...... there are great models about of clubs run by fans that went under - Halifax and Chester for example. Fans who formed their own clubs and retained the ''old team's'' stadium and have gone from strength to strength.
Darlington fans may wish to drop a few leagues down and start a fresh, debt free - but clearly not in that white elephant of a stadium.

I didnt realise that Darlington had already been in Administration 3 times before I posted the above comment so thanks for that info...........

Got until 12 today for an offer to be submitted, and 12 tomorrow for it to go through otherwise that's it. Very sad to see but the Premier League was always going to have this effect. As I understand it the football league used to split the money equally, but as soon as the PL came in and negotiated it's own TV deal with Sky, that was that as far as sharing the money is concerned, and 20 years down the line it looks like the effects are starting to happen. Sad.

They need about £80,000 a month to stay afloat, apparently it's their stadium which is killing them, the cost of upkeep is too high for the amount of fans they bring in. Sad really.

I know its not our repsonsibilty, but surely premier league clubs who waste a shameful amount of money on dross can help clubs like this out for such a small amount. thats £4000 per month per prem club.

Sounds good in principle, but could United afford to pay £4,000 a month ;)
Apparently they were asking Darlington if they could help out with the interest they've got to pay on their bonds.

I don't think it's got anything to do with sky. If that were the case every club below league 2 would be n the brink. It's that stupid ridiculous stadium they have got. That's it.

I meant in general but yeah you're right about the stadium, what a silly thing to build for a club of that size!
It's been brought forward now too, according to talksport that is. Nothing signed by 12, (so in 50 minutes time), and that's that - business ceased.

It goes way back beyond Sky to when the big boys demanded they kept all the gate money for their home games. Then the big got bigger and the small got smaller.
