Darts 2025

He is special, so fair play to him. But you're right, darts as a spectacle is shite. God-awful. There's a reason most attendees treat it as a piss up.
I've never understood the appeal of it as a spectator sport. To my cynical, FOC eyes, it looks like it's just an excuse to dress up in silly clobber, and get pissed. But.... It is exceedingly popular, given the viewing figures, so I'm obviously missing something. Chuck in the willingness of Paddy Power to stump up a serious amount of money to the prize pot. They obviously think the exposure is worth it! Does all the prize money come from PP, or does the PDC contribute towards the kitty?

I went once to the MEN arena to see what it was like.

It’s fun, but for the younger generation. It’s a generic away day experience where you don’t care about what happens in the actual games.

The crowd get more involved when the games are tight or explode in quality, but generally it’s about banter with your mates.

I guess Paddy Power and the PDC stump up the prize money, but as you said the other day, the amount of beer sold probably covers it!

The gate money over the tournament will be not far short of £10m and together with TV rights, beer and merch sales would more than be enough for the overall £5m prize pot leaving plenty of profit for the PDC after expenses.

I absolutely love the darts. My dad was a very, very good thrower - playing superleague well into his 70s.
Luke Littler is a special player, and the best should be the champion of the world. I was pleased with his win because of that - I'm not one who cheers for the underdog in all circumstances - and I love to witness greatness: Bolt, McLaughlin, Federer, and Crawford are all sporting greats that have received my support in recent times.

To be the double world champion of a sport played by so many is incredible. To do it at 18 is bewildering, but sometimes a talent enters who defies what was previously believed possible. He could become the best ever.
