This is on the front of the DT today. Classic photo. Bremner was a bit of a rough-house player, cracking guy for the team, and some ability, but he could be 'dirty'. He tried it on with the wrong one with Dave Mackay, and DM was explaining to him, before the days of Lee Mason and his cards, that there were certain things that weren't part of the game, and were Bremner to persist with them, there would be a 'reckoning. The pic is in black and white so yer don't see the brown trickle coming down the inside of Bremner's leg!!

I never saw a lot of Roy Paul, but I've always had the idea in my head that Dave Mackay was the reincarnation of Roy Paul.

My Dad says that picture of Mackay is Roy Paul in a good mood!

Yer Dad should have a job on Sky or BT!!

He loves Roy Paul,he always comes into the conversation when we are out.....the quote he always uses is actually " Andy Morrison on one is Roy Paul in a good mood"

Said he saw Paul do what Mackay did to Bremner to Bert Trautmann,an ex German Paratrooper....have to be some kind of hard man to do that.

Totally agree, from a time when football was a tough but good game, Samir wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes back then, but they still had the ability to go with it.

One of the most iconic photos from a sporting point of view was Big Dave grabbing hold of Billy Bremner (who always thought himself as a hard man) and dragging him up by the collar, with Bremner shitting himself, looking at Big Dave and thinking "please don`t hit me" !!!

Just heard on talksport from the guy who wrote Mackay's autobiograhy. He reckons the reason big Dave grabbed the little shit like that was because Dave had just come back that day from his second broken leg and Bremner was targeting the leg. What an utter c**t, just like the rest of that Leeds team. Despicable outfit.
Note that is one more broken leg than Dave Whelan (apparently) suffered, without any of the incessant talking about it

Has TWENTY-THREE YEAR OLD grandson suffered a broken leg yet? Is it not the only qualification required to be chairman of The PieEaters?

General ignorance and an unhealthy smattering of casual racism also help

R.I.P.

Thoughts to family and friends.

Oh and do you mean this pic oakie?

<a class="postlink" href="http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/11/21/article-1088232-0007DBD700000258-45_468x323_popup.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/11/ ... _popup.jpg</a>
Is that Bobby Collins in the background? Another Scottish great despite only standing 5ft 3 inches. Sadly passed away last year.

I thought that it was the ex Rag Johnny Giles another dirty Bxxxxard

A man of teak my Dad says - RIP one of those about whom the words great and legend are not used just for flattery. Playing career well documented as a winner - despite breaking his leg twice ( a feat which oddly ever took him to Wigan where that sort of thing is de rigueur ) but also an accomplished managerial career.

THAT photo is a superb reminder of a different era - the b+w image just lends something to it as well. The body language is great - MacKay striding towards him about to tear Bremners heart out through his throat and Bremner trying to somehow back away . He thought of himself a hard man did Bremner but like most bullies he couldn't cut it when someone got in his face like that - proper shitting his kecks there .

Roy Paul our own legend used to make the crowd laugh when one of the opposition transgressed. He just walked over to the player and made sure that the player's number was noted. They would fade from the game after that.
Back on topic Big Dave ( so called not because of his height but his frame ) was an absolute colossus and served as a superb counterfoil to John White and Danny Blanchflower. It was a pleasure to have seen him in the flesh.

For those youngsters who never had the opportunity of seeing this player, can I just say,he really was an iconic player for Spurs and Derby.Never mind how hard he was, this lad could play and I was privileged in seeing him play may times.
I true players player and a superb Captain.

Why is everyone always saying Samir can't fight when time and time again he's always eager to pick up a fight (like that red card headbutt in.. Norwich?)

Anyway RIP.
