As is usual with the bleating, 'woe-is-me' martyrs from Shrinefield, someone dared to voice an opinion contrary to the phoney image they have cultivated for about half a century - loveable, chirpy little rascals, happy-go-lucky street urchins like the Artful Dodger and his companions. This man, David Coote, spoke from the heart about an English football team that is universally despised, and made a disparaging remark about their former manager...who is also intensely disliked outside of the cult.
He was ill-advised to make these comments in public and he could well lose his job as a consequence. But, looking at the bigger picture, the dippers have painted themselves into a corner here. Opposition fans are going to use this incident against the club for a very long time to come, and the abuse they will receive for this latest outburst of self-righteous indignation will be only half of what they deserve.
This is the same club that managed to get English teams banned from competing in European games for about five years or so. The same club whose deranged followers came out en-masse in support of a sneering, racist, wannabe cannibal. The same fans who openly cheered when an opposition player had to be stretchered off the pitch after a collision with one of theirs. The same club whose slack-jawed supporters took it upon themselves to ambush and violently attack our team coach before an important game. And of course the very same club whose followers were responsible for the deaths of 39 supporters and the serious injuries of over 600 more at the Heysel Stadium in Belgium.
But now that a professional footballing referee has put his head above the parapet, the dipper fans and the biased media will be all out to make an example of the man and hang him out to dry, for saying what football fans all over the world have been saying since the 50's.
The same dipper fans and sycophantic media who not only chose to ignore the fact that a former dipper player was caught on film spitting at a young child, but elevated his position within the media to become a regular presenter and co-commentator on Sly Sports.
