David Coote

Nice summary. I thought at one point you were describing Ferguson and United, who had similar manipulative tendencies when it came to bringing influence on officials (referees and administrators). Liverpool are happy to stir things up when it suits them, and putting pressure on referees needs to stop. Klopp also encouraged Liverpool fans to travel to a European final without tickets. The club did nothing but stand back when that went spectacularly wrong.

Coote has responsibilities too though. I'm sure there will be terms of his employment that he shouldn't bring his employer, or football into disrepute, and he had done that in a big way. Some estimates are that he earns £300k per year, and if he loses that, he only has himself to blame. For that amount of money, it's not unreasonable to expect someone to act with integrity, decorum, and restraint.

If you can't control yourself when under the influence of drink or drugs, abstain from taking them.
You're quite right in what you say. I've respected a lot of what you've said on this forum over the years.

However, you have to remember that all these high profile individuals are in the public eye in a way you and I will never be. Social media has jetisoned this to levels that are beyond anything we grew up with.

When I first started watching football, I knew the names of the referees we got on a regular basis at Maine Rd and built up my impression of them. Would I recognise any of them in the street? No. Would I even bother to have a go at them for a decision they made in a match? absolutely not.

Coote has had a lot of abuse off Klopp and Co. None of us know what it's like to be faced with strangers having a go at you here there and everywhere. Has that coffee you just ordered been spat in, is that guy staring at me going to punch me or have a go at my wife/kids etc. You can become paranoid quite easily. The only way you can cope is by switching off normal responses, and as soon as you start doing that your life starts to become plastic. Coote is clearly "damaged goods" in my mind, and I have a.lot of sympathyfor him (despite him behaving like a dick).

Obviously as you say in your reference to Fergusson (could equally say Wenge & Mourinho), this is nothng new, other than the toxic effect of social media that these days ensures everyone knows everything immediately.

Back in the day, referees were only on show on the day of the match not 24x7x365.

For me the buck has to stop with the likes of Klopp and Robertson being reprimanded for saying what they say publicly. It's a different world now. After all this issue would not have occurred if they hadn't publicly abused him.

This came out over 5 years ago and there's no suggestion they're prostitutes

Unusual for scousers to exaggerate!

To be fair there wouldn't be a single way you'd get that many passers by in a picture to join you for a photo, that being said they all look old enough so hey ho.
