David Johnson RIP

I remember him once trying the worst ever attempt at an overhead kick at the North Stand end while playing for us, missed the ball completely iirc. Fair to say he wasn’t the most lithe and athletic at his peak, so by the time he came to us, well…
We put a photo of it on the cover of the next home game programme.

Great striker , he was past his best when he signed for us and had lost the electric pace he once had , but he was superb for both Everton & Liverpool , the big "C" claims another stalwart , RIP

I remember him signing for City and being dead excited, as I had his Liverpool bubble gum card! I think we signed him as a super sub to back up Jim Tolmie and Derek Parlane in our promotion push. Then someone pointed out he was too old!

He scored on his debut v Cardiff, and I was there!!

Just been digging!

Haha fantastic, yes second picture was the one, he was closer to decapitating the keeper than ever making contact with the ball
First was after his one and only goal for us iirc

As I suspected he played in that Easter 1984 game at Oldham Athletic. What an occasion that was.
Was that the fucking mental one with the ladder, the flying wooden seats from the top tier, the copper sparked out on the pitch and Billy McNeill coming out to the open terrace and telling us all to ‘calm the fuck down for fuck’s sake’?
What a day

Really good - possibly underrated - forward.

He was a brilliant foil to Dalglish at Liverpool as well as a regular goalscorer himself ... and the Ipswich, Liverpool & Everton sides he played in were excellent trophy-chasing sides.

City, less so.
