Having watched Chelsea yesterday. He isn't really that bad. He was actually pretty good until the Villa second goal. Certainly their best defender in the Villa game IMO.

However, i wouldn't want a defender like him in my team. Way too adventurous.

Dont know why they don't try him in midfield with terry and ivanovic as the centre halves
That's what they should do.

Remember Chelsea v City, with Lescott putting in a good performance then making that one mistake costing you the penalty? MOTD showed hardly any of the good work he did prior to that, as I thought he was better than Kompany that game. But the penalty had its own segment. Thats basically the same case with Luiz. On average, he's putting in brilliant performances most people don't see unless you watch Chelsea regularly.

Our main defensive problems are the fact that with Bosingwa at RB we have either a gigantic hole at the right that Luiz needs to fill, which leaves a gigantic hole in the middle. The fact that Terry is not a pace defender compounds the problem and Cole isn't what he used to be. Romeu does a great job of plugging this gap at lot of the time but its still unacceptable, causing us to leak goals like a sieve.

You lot got very lucky again today; Fat Frank should have walked in that game. How the ref didn't red card him is beyond me. Is AVB a dead man walking?

I don't think so yet. He keeps saving him self from the brink of crossing that line. If he had lost today I'd be concerned. Don't know how we won either, but 3 points and back in 4th so I'm not reading into it.

We've actually had a few games in a row where the ref has been very kind to us and we pissed the opportunity away. Thats especially annoying.

No more than the vermin, you lot do seem to get more than your fair share of ''sympathetic'' refs. We know that to our cost; Clattenberg, you twat!

You mean our game? He was just incompetent for both sides. He cut you a few breaks. Silva could have had a penalty and Meireles could have been off, but you could have lost Kompany (lunge on Mata from behind, right in front of the ref and while on a yellow) and Yaya (kicked Mata and slap in the face, I don't think was malicious but look what happened to Gervinho for practically the same thing), as well as Clichy. Even Chelsea could score against 8 men. :P

He is a horrible central defender.

Now, if they moved him to center midfielder he would probably develop well there (a sort of reverse Kompany, if you will).

Agree re. Yaya. Don't know who fed him the raw meat that night but he was treading the line. As for Kompany; well, him and Meireles sort of cancel each other out. I was on about the nailed on penalty we should have had. Admitted, there was no guarantee we'd have scored it. But if we had, I don't think you would have won that game.

I have to agree with you Seb, he would be a fantastic Defensive Midfielder who can carry the ball well and has great vision for a pass, not a bad goalscorer either (Champions League).

Well as far as refs robbing teams go, I didn't think that one was so bad to you considering all the decisions he let go on both sides. Sunderland in contrast where you dominate the entire game and lose to an offside goal in the last second because the linesman was thinking of his tea. Though to be fair, I think your defence had gone home too. :P

he's a good defender prone to lapses, just like jones. one is seen as rubbish and the other is seen as great, when in truth they are exactly the same

They obviously don't believe in playing until the final whistle. Not up in the frozen wastelands up on Wearside. Two fucking years in a row we concede a last minute winner up there. Jesus did indeed weep.

At least the only team to comprehensively beat you this season is Bayern away, who have the best shot at the CL title outside of Real and Barca. I'd rather your woes than mine.

Complete thread hijack now. Luiz is fine. Terry is still slow. Cole is in decline and Bosingwa is shit. I only wish it were as simple as Luiz being shit so we could replace him and fix the problem.

Has potential to be a world-class defender alongside Thiago Silva, obviously needs time to adapt to the English game playing in Portugal prior, look at how much 'Pool slated Lucas and now he's developed into a really solid player.

I really have to disagree. I think he has the potential to develop in to a top-class defensive midfielder but his positional awareness and nativity is not up to being an exceptional defender. He is obviously a gifted footballer but he is being played in a position he can only dominate at a lower level (Portuguese Liga, Championship, Eredivisie).

There is something alot of people see in him as in being a bit classy at times, but to me when I've watched him he just looks a little what I can only describe as a rabbit in headlights and I think it's down to the speed of the game here.
To me he has a little scared or worried look on his face at times and alot of his tackles are a bit last ditch panic kind of thing. Maybe if he gets upto speed he may turn out to be a decent buy.
I'm not sure he would be any good in midfield at the moment mainly due to the same reasons.

So, he’s still 24 and very young. People think 24 is the finish article nowadays. Players need time to adapt. Look at Koscielny for arsenal, all over the place first season, their best defender second season
