Why is no one else demanding we break the bank for Luiz?

IMO he could be the final piece of our jigsaw and solves many of our 'problems' in one go.

First and foremost - he should be a holding midfield player and would be brilliant alongside Fernandhino - his compatriot. Thereby releasing Yaya further forward where he should be.

He could fit anywhere at the back too and in any formation - playing as one of three CB's to allow us to use wingbacks/wingers and two centre forwards.

He can also fill in at CB when injuries occur - like now!

I don't see the downside. I think he could be tempted if he can play in that holding midfield role.....................

is it because he is to central defending what you are to being a City fan? (by the way, just to make it clear for you, I am not praising his defending)

The guy's a liability, makes as many shocking mistakes as he does hollywood passes or wonder goals. Seriosuly lacking in footballing intelligence.

One of those players who it was cool to hate and then it turns into being cool to rate.

In my opinion hes down the middle, lots of talent but too many mistakes

The Luiz insult I can handle - the 'city fan' banal, childish crap, nah. Fool.

He ball watches too much for me, was at it again yesterday when Norwich scored with slow responses that let Pilkington head the ball in. He's undoubtedly talented but makes a lot of basic errors and we need someone more solid and disciplined for our defence I think (like Godin).

I think the OP was advocating him playing in midfield, allowing Yaya to go further forward. However, your point still stands, he’s not disciplined enough and you can’t afford to have luxury players in central midfield or defence.

So Lescott and Nastasic are better defenders than him ?

The guy was wanted by Barcelona and regular for Brazil, he cant be that bad.

Nastasic definitely, and I’m not talking potential, he’s just a better centre back, end of.

In Lescott’s case, if I had to pick a centre back to play week in, week out I’d go for Lescott because he’s reliable and you know what you’re getting. With Luiz you get world class one week then Sunday league the next.

Barca wanted him because they rarely have to defend and he’s great on the ball, he’s a lot more suited for them than he is the Premier League. If he had gone to Barca though, I’d have been surprised if he’d have been selected ahead of Pique, Puyol or Mascherano for Classicos or big Champions League games.

In what world is Lescott reliable? Other than reliably a liability? I'm strugling to remember the last time he played well for us

Unless you're a goldfish it shouldn't be that hard. Big surprise to find you bigging up another ex-Benfica player though.

Please point to where I bigged up an ex-Benfica player in this thread. When was the last time Lescott played well then? Possibly Stoke last year? He was solid against a few long ball side iirc, can't remember him having a decent game this year

I'd love Luiz at City.

Him and Kompany together and we'd have the best CB partnership in Europe.

He is a brilliant footballer who happens to be a defender, his mistakes are often exagerated.

He has a trick or two in his locker, which maybe some people dont like in a CB, but look past his hair and his arrogance and there is a quality defender who along with the skill brings desire and strength.

I'd rather have Luiz in the team knowing he may make a mistake occasionally , rather than just see totally inept defending, which is what we are seeing most games, at some point.

because its a waste of time even thinking about,
Chelsea are the same us. They are not a selling club.
