David Makin's extraordinary outburst on GMR, 1998

not on the same scale ,but confirmed my own doubts when eliot rashmann wrote to the MEN about his personal experience at MR ,regarding the treatment of fans and the overall amateurish running of the club . No wonder we were a laughing-stock ,just like the barcodes are now

I am almost 100% certain it was the Bury home game.
The guy that run on the pitch ripping us his season ticket went on to run the boozer across the road from my house.
Good times.

Pretty sure you're right, I was working as a Steward that season. Ended up leaving as a Steward as too many of them were arrogant power hungry jobsworths just looking for a fight. (apologies to the decent stewards though, you do a good job!)

It may well have been Bury. That was a real low point, that game.

Can you remember a year or so after this when Willie Donnachie had an outburst at us fans in the MEN?

He had been slagged off to the hilt at the Darlington FA Cup game and he said that the whole club had started to wallow in our misfortune and slag off everyone and everything?

He was right in the main, too

Was that the one where Brown scored an absolute screamer in the last minute or maybe it was extra time? There were so many knocks around then, it's hard to pin point one particular moment. The hopeless inevitability of going down to the third tier after Pollocks magnificent OG header against QPR probably does it for me though.
The third division wasn't too bad after Christmas, we went on a decent run!

Does anyone remember David Makin's amazing phone call to Jimmy Wagg's phone in after the Reading game (I think), 1997-98 season?

He owned 10% of the club at the time and phoned in with an extraordinary rant about how Franny Lee was killing the club, that he was a bully and that he had to go? For a shareholder to do that was unheard of before and caused absolute ructions.

It lead to the removal of Franny, the sacking of Frank Clarke and the appointment of Joe Royle.

Was this the turning point in our club's history?

I'm supposed to be going on a date with Clarke's daughter! Just thought I'd share that with ya!

I don't think we've had to many decent level headed chairman/owner at City, David Berstein being the only one who had financial knowledge and could of stirred us away from where we nearly ended....Bancrupt!

Saying that, It's been a hell of a ride. Ding ding round 2!!!

Do you think that Maybe Bernstein is hel in a bit too high of a regard by the City faithful? He did agree to substantial amounts of Keegans spending such as 5 million on Macken when we were strolling towards promotion. He could of reigned him in earlier and we wouldn't of been in such a financial mess under Pearce's stint at club.
