yeah, he was decent enough, me and my mates used to have a bet on how many times he'd hit that sign at the top of the Platt Lane ( the yellow one with black writing, i think it said Pickwicks or .......wicks), i'm sure he'd do one a game at least!!

Phillips had a great season that year and was joint top scorer. Scored a couple of really spectacular efforts. Found it a bit harder after we got promoted, and I think he only managed a single goal that year, though his performances I thought were OK. Crowd got on his back, I recall, which was very unfair. Because we had no cash and needed a 'keeper after Alex Williams's injury, we ended up trading him to Coventry for Perry Suckling. Not much doubt who got the better of the deal. Phillips won an FA Cup medal in 1987, the year after he left, and we got relegated.

At his unveiling he complained that his name had been spelt wrong on the shirt he was given to wear for the photo shoot, bearing in mind this was 10 years before names on shirts started.

Well done for finding that. Still goes down as one of my best ever day's supporting City, absolutely brilliant. Was in the old Platt lane on the wooden benches, fantastic day and night afterwards.

He was a very good player for us and we sold him far too soon.

Saw him score a great goal from about 40 yards out at Maine Road. Can't remember when or who the opposition were but I am sure it won goal of the month.

His goal of the month winners were a long ranger v Carlisle and a volley v Wimbledon. We were on MOTD a lot at the time as we were one of the few clubs to have undersoil heating
