It's funny how goals can distort performances isn't it? I think it's a solid 7/10 performance but not really a class one, even though Spanish Dave was one of our better players last night. Don't get me wrong, it was a great finish to celebrate his 200th Prem appearance and I'm very happy for him, but I was somewhat bemused that in some games (certainly less than a while ago) he didn't get the recognition he deserved despite playing better. Perhaps it's all about opinions, but I think it's obvious that stats on goals and assists belie his performance in the new linking role.
We always see what we want to see. Some called it shirking of responsibility to pass before shoot, but then this is perhaps the reason why strikers love him. Some say he lacked mobility and pace (does he truly lack them?), but he seemed to get on pretty well without those, with the exception of the Leceister game. Some think he's constantly chasing after the ball, well I'm pretty sure that he went long periods being further than 5 yards away from the ball. And you'd think that Pep would have given him one hell of a bollocking if he did disrupt the attacking shape.
As for hindering Gundogan and KDB, I could make an argument about them hindering him too, when the truth is they are still learning about the new system and each other. Sooner or later it would be sorted out.
