David Silva - 2019/20 Performances

Weird thing is Dave & Bernardo are on course to have their most productive seasons in terms of G&A, but their performances in general have dropped off.

yep, I've read somewhere few days ago that he is winning loads of less balls defensively than he did in previous seasons. He is just not able to do a high pressure anymore and it reflects on the whole side. Mind you, he's not only one who's pressure levels dropped.

Strange for me that David has declared this season as his last at City... he's still world class and, IMO, has a season or three at WC performance ahead of him - which, I'd think, he'd like to spend at our club.

David Silva has always been understated. His genius is in finding space for himself and others and the interchanges. Sane became world class playing with Silva with their amazing interchanges.

He has looked worse because he has lost all the main left sided players for all or a significant part of the season: Delph, Laporte, Sane, Rodri, Zinchenko and Mendy. We have had further problems at CB as well as the usual injuries in other positions. The team has been unbalanced and lacking the instinctive positioning and penetration of previous seasons.

No doubt David is slowing but he should be able to rely on others to work for him. He is being made to appear worse than he is.

I am a fan of Phil Foden but it is just as wrong to push him too much when so young as to prematurely write of David Silva. We need both this season.

Pep Guardiola on David Silva's fitness: "David is not ready for tomorrow [vs Oxford]. We will see after that, on Thursday or Friday whether he can train for Leicester, we will see."

maybe we should let Phil take the league games, reserve Dave for FA & C/L...he can then go out in a blaze of glory...if he wants

No no no. I love Spanish Dave more than anyone but when you need other players to do your running, you're finished at this elite level. We had exactly the same situation with Toure a few seasons back, as an individual player he was still more technically gifted than most but his lack of pace, intensity and energy almost single handedly killed the team in big games.
