David Silva fact!

Played as a false nine for Spain which would explain the goals.

Imagine him in his prime as part of that 21-22 City team.
I was always well impressed by his international goal total,I didn't really follow other international teams closely so the false 9 position explains everything....
Which brings me to my next point...I distinctly remember Silva scoring a headed goal for Spain from distance ..to the right of pen box ..I think it might have been in a friendly against Scotland ?...At Highbury?.. I've searched for the goal time and again on you tube but never found it..
I'm prob wrong with the opponent and location, but I know I saw him score that goal for Spain
Can anyone shed some light on this please? It's doing my head in.

These posts make me miss watching David Silva play even more...

Made the game look very easy. The most laid back style of any player. Just a joy to watch playing.

David Silva, Yaya, Aguero, Tevez... What a time that was to be alive.
Made me think immediately of Spurs 1 City 5 under Mancini.
I was so proud to be a City fan at WHL that day,the intricate football we played that day ,and Silva was at the heart of it. An amazing performance.

While many would disagree, I honestly think that period was the most enjoyable I ever had watching City.

Our football was exhilarating, we were in awe of what was going on before us, pinching ourselves thinking that we were dreaming... Bloody hell this was OUR City, full of the best players that most of us had ever seen, tearing teams apart, stopping clocks, breaking hearts...

It's never been as exciting since for me. Yes, we've won trophies, broken records etc, but there was something magically special about the Mancini period that will stay with me for ever.

That is exactly how I feel, as good as it was to win the treble or even the CL, nothing will ever come close to me finally seeing City win the league after all the time I thought maybe this year.

The Sane/Sterling season 17? was probably the best attacking team I have seen, though.

I agree.
And I often reflect on the Mancini era, in particular the day we went to Arsenal and set up for,and got, a nil nil draw . We hadn't won at Arsenal for over 30 years.

Arsenal at the time were Powerful dangerous oppentemts on their own turf. Mancini's tactics that midweek night were pure Italian defensive Master class. David Silva played his part in ball retention, starving the home team of the ball....and showing little interest in scoring. Mancini knew we had to put the shutters down, and we did. It sounds strange talking up a nil nil draw, but I can still remember sitting there ,being proud at how the team stuck to the plan,Zabaletta was outstanding I recall...

Nil nil,job done, goodnight Arsenal, the tarquins were properly chocked that night.

The next season,in the league cup I think it was, City went back to Arsenal, and won 1nil.
That to me showed real progress. This time it was gritty dogged defending but the team were licenced to counter...and we did,a breath taking lightning attack .1 nil City.
30 years of arsenal away traumas disappeared.

I've the greatest respect for Roberto Mancini and what he did for City, and bringing Silva and Yaya to these shores was a major part of it.

Edit: actually on reflection I'm not sure Silva played in the 1st match at arsenal under Mancini
I think Bob had not long took over, and was playing MH s team...which is why we went for a point.

I genuinely believe that Leroy Sane was the most talented and most exciting player we have signed (or brought through the system) since Kevin De Bruyne.

As a new arrival, only Cole Palmer has come anywhere near him and KDB in the past 10 years imo.

Leroy had everything, and the crowd lived him... There was a genuine buzz around the ground whenever he went forward with the ball. Such a shame that he left.

Herbert, the bitter bastard is at it again.

The assister of the assister and no stat ever records those passes and there were many of them.
What a player he was.
In hockey they do and they’re important and count as points over a player’s career, as do primary assists and goals — each count a point apiece. Have really never understood why football hasn’t done something similar.

It definitely felt more ‘real’. The fa cup was the start of our charge with the league the following season. For someone who grew up thinking I wouldn’t ever see us win away at OT, let alone win a trophy, it was all very magical.

15 years since he arrived. The best player I’ve ever seen play for us, and one of the best the league has seen. Even the rags didn’t hate him as a rival, a quiet and begrudging respect was shown to him.

I liked a beer or ten, too!
The sad bastards booed him, when he played at the swamp for Réal Sociedad.
