Great game from him tonight, we should ask him what he wants to stay another season free tapas for life anything he's too good to lose.
not directed at you personally as it is an oft used term in regards to football, and strangely not other sports, which in itself proves my point.I wouldn't be overly happy if he fucked off to Japan or America tbh if he was going back home to play for his hometown team then I can get with that romance but the other way would make him a mercenary and let's face it he can hardly need the cash.

"mercenary" is the most fucked, ill-used word in this beautiful game. everybody is payed a different amount, and there are a myriad of factors that determine that from both the player talent side and the clubs requirement side, not to mention maybe a sentimental boyhood preference as well.
every player has the right to play both ends towards the middle to get the best deal for himself no matter what without having to answer to anyone for their decision.
If a club wants to try and buy trophies with all the best players within the rules, and players gravitate to that team for the cash, i say fair play to all of them.
100%. Mercenary is a ludicrous term for any footballer. They own their labour like we all do. Every player has different priorities...and as long as they perform to the best of their ability under contract they owe nothing to anyone.
