David Villa..

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Barcelona for David Villa. Good replacement for Falcao. He will do well there and will start most matches obviously to help with his World Cup.

Still not sure whether Tottenham would have been good for him as it seems like quite a risky move moving away from Spain.

According to Spanish Sport, A.Madrid need to pay only 2.1m for him. 5.1m quoted by various media is the fee over three years, apparently.

So it looks as though the quality of Spurs' offer had little to do with Villa's decision to go to Atletico. He simply wanted to go to Atletico and Barca were in a hurry to sell him.

It actually seems that Barcelona did Villa a favour by selling him to a spanish club which will keep him in contention for the WC squad (Del Bosque prefers La Liga players). Anyway, the transfer is pretty much done. They made a 35 million Euro loss on him though.

I think for a guy who's 32 this year, it's a pretty fair price. Although he's not super, super quick, he does have a bit of a turn of pace which you'd expect him to lose in the next couple of years.

Wouldn't have surprised me if someone had paid a couple of million Euros more, but the £12m - £15m prices that were being banded about were too high imo.

But a good signing for them and good for the player too.

Barca get some bad criticism but this is classy. They turned down Arsenals bid of 10m in Jan and have done a cut price deal to let Villa have as best chance as possible to be as good form for Spain.

Chuffed for Athletico too. Lost Aguero and Falcao but still march on. Villa is a perfect fit for them and allows them to do some thorough scouting for a few replacements. Villa and Costa will work well together I feel. I can easily see Villa scoring over 20 in La Liga this season.

Not really if he stayed next season his wages doubled to 10m and he could leave for free next year.

His goal for Melbourne, and some decent shots of the crowd.
