De Bruyne injury - Back in Training (p89)

For me Mahrez is the closest to a like-for-like replacement we have for De Bruyne IF Mahrez can step up his defensive workrate. Mahrez has that same sort of long passing range, the through balls and the crosses that De Bruyne can produce and also the long distance shooting and set pieces. Either that or we play the 2 Silva's together but I tend to see the Silva's as being more alike one another and more "tika-taka" type players. Sometimes you need more of the De Bruyne/Mahrez skillset to open up teams that sit deep so I'm hoping Mahrez will step up, raise his defensive workrate and do the job for us in that role.

What I don't want to see is Gundogan playing that role for 10 weeks. He doesn't have the tools to break down teams that we need. Unlike some people, I've seen enough of him playing the deeper role to be content with him filling in for Fernandinho but I've seen nothing to convince me he can consistently produce incisive enough football further forward.

Also could be a big opportunity for Phil Foden to get some extra minutes. He does need to step up though, he was excellent in the community shield but pretty poor most of pre season. Obviously still extremely young but hopefully he can turn it on a bit more now that the season is underway.

I agree with all of this ... +1

i recently did my medial ligament....did it surfing....took me about 8 weeks to feel it was 100% but Im 43 and dont have access to the medical staff and treatment. was able to walk on it properly after a week or so bit coukdnt run twist and turn till about week 4 -5 and couldnt put real force (kicking a ball and other such powerful dynamic movements) through multiple plains of movement though till about week 6-7.

plus you have to factor regaining match fitness so reckon 2.5 months minimum.

Would love to see him make it back as a sub the match before the Derby so he can have a little run out and hopefully be ready against United. That would be around about that 2.5 mth timeframe. He always seems to play a good game against Mourinho. I guess it's all just speculation at this point though.

Spanish Dave?
I love watching D. Silva but its a different emotion for me. Dave is like 90 mins of breathtaking football, whereas De Bruyne and Yaya have these moments that just make your head explode. How blessed are we to get to enjoy watching these types of players week in and out !

It's a big blow but we have players too fill in, and to be honest I'd be more worried if it was Ederson and we had to rely on Bravo

Lets hope the scans reveal no tear to any ligaments and he he is back quicker than most are forecasting.

As Tolmie mentioned we feared he was gone for a long time after the shocking tackle at Selhurst Park and he played later that week.

You have to think it will be sometime on the sidelines though with 10 weeks the worse case scenario hopefully ala last time he had a lateral ligament injury.

We have to cope without players and KDB is a big loss, we are now on thin ice with our dynamism in midfield down to just Ferdy. Will probably need to play with a more rigid five man midfield with maybe John Stones playing the old fashioned Libero position just in front of a solid back four. We will still have runners with Walker, Mendy, Sterling and Mahrez but I know Pep will come up with the answers, he's a genius and will get us through the KDB absence.

Bugger. This is the time for Gundy to really step up and Foden to take the next big step.

We will cope and he will be back to boost us for the Xmas and New Year.

Here's the silver lining. He gets a really good rest after a tough season and World Cup. I recall his MCL injury - when he returned, he was on fire. Secondly, we have enough cover, especially with Bernardo excelling in a central position. Mahrez and Sane also capable of playing centrally, not to mention Foden. Thirdly, imagine Spring time when everyone is exhausted from almost continual playing but we have KDB still relatively fresh.

It could actually be a blessing in disguise. If we manage to keep winning while he’s out, he will come back fresher for a key stage in the season. We could see Foden break into the team properly too.

One thing's for sure, we are the team best equipped after losing their best player. Still smashed Arsenal away without him, which is a bit of a confidence booster/nerve settler.

Can't say any of the other top 6 teams would cope without their best player:
We've seen Liverpool without Salah, they fell to pieces. United would get smashed every week without De Gea (top5 for saves last season), Chelsea without Hazard looked toothless in the community shield and Spurs would be bottom half with Kane, well not far off anyway.

Still, we're a much better team with Kev, so let's hope the test results are better than first feared.

I reckon he’s fine, he was out and about last night, surely if it was bad he would be told to stay home.

Putting on my blue tinted specs here. So let's say 10 weeks, takes to Nov 4 so he misses Wolves Newcastle Fulham Cardiff Brighton Pool BurnleySpurs Southampton. With a bit of luck the Spurs game might have to get pushed back which would mean the crucial Prem KDB loss is Pool. But hell that could have happened anyway, star players miss big games every season. At least Pep has planning time. Also prob all the CL groups but none of the teams in the other pots should worry us too much with our squad. Would be nice to see him on the bench against the rags at the Etihad.
And we ain't a Kane or Salah dependent team. The big loss for me is going to the game but not seeing him play.

The fixtures are kind there's an international break ,no other significant squad injuries , so if he has to be injured now is the best time . Sane Marhrez Two silva's Sterling and Gundogan will see us through
Shame someone doesn't show the players the posts from the so called greatest supporters on the planet .Thats extra motivation if we need it to get through unscathed
There are 3 international breaks between now and mid Nov.

IF he was out for 3 months he would miss around 9 Prem games, hopefully he’s have the scum game mid Nov as a target.

Would have been distraught last year but bringing in Mahrez and shifting Bernardo inside is already looking good business. Also take in to account our next 6 fixtures and the Dr Cugat element, I think we'll be just fine. KdB fully rested up ready for hectic Christmas and run. Almost like we planned it... :)
