When I say no one I mean your average sports fan. I’m no media expert but,as much as the next guy, when work’s quiet I’ll trawl through most of the broadsheets online and have a skim through the red tops, have a look at sky and the bbc, read forums of sports I’m really into etc etc. So on that basis it seems to me as though this website is very niche but I’m not here to decry The Athletic, just the notion that a guy who’s been recruited by them has any more credibility than any other journo. Of the ones you mentioned I have Taylor down as a pretentious wanker, Kay is ok, Honigstein mediocre - does he offer great insight or is he merely conveniently bi lingual.

I’m sure you’ve been abroad before, and therefore know that most German, French, Dutch, Spanish etc etc natives have a pretty good grasp of the English Language. As such I am sure he is more than just “continently bi lingual”.

The entire media landscape in Germany has been working together to "write" Leroy to Bayern. Bild, Kicker, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Der Spiegel, Transfermarkt.de and every TV pundit and ex Bayern player has been campaigning together for months to make this happen. I find it pretty amazing how all these entities seemingly work together to serve the interest of a single Bundesliga club.

You shouldn't be. After all, they are the German Rags. It's just like United over here. Nobody is surprised anymore with the coverage and fawning United get the in sports media over here. Harry Maguire signing for United, being the latest example.

Sane coming back to the Bundesliga helps them all i suppose, an exciting player who people will tune in to watch and may stay when seeing the other teams. The German transfer window doesn't close until Sept 2nd, it will be crazy if we sell him without the chance of buying anyone but i think that is a distinct reality.
I don't. We've said the price is £135m. We didn't say that in order to take £85m and make ourselves look like complete tits.

I think they are genuinely shocked that we haven't rolled over like every minnow club they've ever stolen from. And they won't be paying us £135, not in a million years. That was never in their plans.

I only really know him from being a panellist, to describe him as anodyne is being kind to him

No player in the right mind will not want a clause put in there contract, not when the great Man united come calling just ask Peter Schmeichel

It'd make me puke if I supported anther German club, that's for sure.

I don't see why it's crazy to not replace him? We'll be in the same situation as the 100 point season with 5 players for the front 3, except Cancelo or Angelino could also play on the wing in a pinch, and the squad is much more adaptable to other formations now.
