I’ve never heard of The Athletic or the journo in question. Why would someone within the club pass info to a niche website that the mainstream consumer is unaware of ? And as for his track record, a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I don't see why it's crazy to not replace him? We'll be in the same situation as the 100 point season with 5 players for the front 3, except Cancelo or Angelino could also play on the wing in a pinch, and the squad is much more adaptable to other formations now.

That's true, but there is nobody in the whole squad that can do what Sane can do. But then again, the same could be said about KDB last season, so TF do i know :D
