Mainly on the basis of the logic. Its not even a football argument. Its intellectually wrong the notion Arsenal got 84 points last season was because Chelsea and Liverpool regressed.

Like I said, if one swimmer swims slower than he did the year before, does that mean another in the race swims faster by default?

This is Jack Grealish level intellect
Jack Grealish must be more intellectual than you then.

If a team has more pressure put on them by teams around them they are more likely to drop points - case in point Arsenal folding like a cheap suit as soon as City ramped up. Or arsenal doing exactly the same in 2022 to blow the champions league places.

Another/multiple teams getting more points will always negatively impact mentally weak teams like Arsenal.

I think Arsenal has this too. Arteta is instilling it.

I honestly don’t think he is. I think Arteta is a bit one dimensional and when things don’t go Arsenal’s way he seems happy to woman, moan and indulge in paranoia with the rest of the mare arses - hardly the actions of an inspirational leader.

Arteta is a spanish version of klopp tbf, both run around alot on the touchline and give a good interview but immediately blame anything and anybody they can when its not going there way.

If other teams are back in the mix, what difference does that make relative Arsenal? Take for instance Liverpool. Lets just say they never regressed and played at a very high level, outside the 6 points on offer when the two teams face off, what difference does the points tally of Arsenal depend on the level of performance of Liverpool?

It is such a brain dead argument, that Arsenal finished the season second on 84 points because Liverpool dropped off. There is no correlation. Does one swimmer go faster because the other one goes slower???????
Mate, you need a calculator! If Liverpool & Chelsea offer stiffer resistance to you next season, it doesn't mean you can't beat them, but it'll make it infinitely harder for you to win the league, & it'll take more out of your squad who've now got CL considerations.

How can you publicly state a team who achieved 98 points not so long ago & STILL finished second, can't affect your season outside of the 6 points available against you? What about the surprising points they surrendered outside of games against Arse?

You're talking like you'll have a four game season next time around & that will determine where you finish. What about Liverpool's/Chelsea's points gained/lost against your rivals?

Stop being silly! You got Rice for £105m, so what're you still doing on this forum?

It will keep hurting

Definitely dodged a bullet with this lad , like Bellingham overrated because he is English , neither will ever be world class , and if your paying over £100m you want the finished product , not potential.

Not exactly the case if you take it that your example is based on your swimming situation where time is infinite, whereas in the PL it is finite because there are a set maximum number of points available, in this case 1140 (3 points x 10 matches per round x 38 rounds). This maximum number is reduced, of course, in the event of draws.

If a team does better one season than the previous season, then the maximum number of these 1140 points available for the other teams to claim is reduced.

And just in case it isnt clear, other teams (including Liverpool & Chelsea) getting less allows the remaining teams (including Arsenal) to get more.

You know more about your team than me, but I suppose that you got more points against Big 6 teams last year than previous years, no ?

**(Not against us, obv, we fucking walloped you twice.... well, three counting cups).
