Declan Rice

So after all the excitement it don’t look so done and dusted. I’m not sure where we stand. It’s all West Ham noise which leads us to an auction. City don’t normally do auctions unless we expected Gundo to stay. After not obtaining Jude we moved to rice after Arsenal. It’s not like us to go in late. I think most people only want him because they don’t want him going to Arsenal. Good player but with Philips we don’t really need him.

Not doubting the info but as other have said this don’t feel like city but I guess things can change. At this moment i am more in the using city to get Arsenal to pay up camp.

How are your heads tonight?

This all stinks of bluffing. It's likely that it's anything but.

The stuff around WHU trying to push the price up and get Arsenal to pay makes sense but I do wonder why more credible journos like Ornstein would jump on it. He has contacts at City so you’d think he’d check, he is normally cautious.

It makes sense to sign Rice. Given that Gundo left and that Bernardo might leave, we have only Rodri, Kovacic and Phillips as CMs. KDB and Foden are/have been more of AMs than CMs. Next season we may play over 60 games again, we can't rely only or even mostly on Rodri and Kovacic.

If it makes sense to sign Rice, where's the offer? Well, I think Rice wanted to go to Arsenal prior to our interest and now is wondering what to do. We are waiting for his decision, that's why we haven't made a formal offer. If/when Rice says Yes, we'll make the offer and sign him. If he says No, we haven't made an offer anyway...

Ornstein was careful with his wording in his original tweet, said City 'expected' to make bid rather than will or have made bid. He definitely got the steer from West hams side.

Phillips and Rice are different. I like Phillips and I hope he does well but he’s not box to box, something I think Rice will easily adapt to.
