Defensive midfielder

The positions you have mentioned are those that need sorting urgently. I would add at least another CM to that list. This does not take into account the possibility of other players regressing or under performing in the next year or two. It really is a very large task that lies ahead. As you say it really shouldn't have got to this point, but it's what we do to address it that is paramount.
I think we need to decide how we want to play tactically and stick to it.

We are either a pressing team or we aren't. If we are, then that's where Haaland and Doku need the biggest work. Both are terrible at pressing in unison or with purpose.

Next we need recruits and move outs. We need 6 players in my opinion.
Now
RB Vanderson
CM Rejinders

Summer
WIng/ST Rodrygo
CM Alex Baena
CB Antonio Silva
LB Kerkez

This would be how I structure the rebuild.

Out: Gundo, Bernardo, Kevin, Grealish, John, Ake, Kyle

Team
GK Ederson, Ortega
RB Vanderson, Rico
LB Kerkez, Gvardiol
CB: Dias, Gvardiol, Akanji, Antonio Silva
DM: Rodr, Rejnders, Kovacic
CM: Foden, Baena, Rejnders, Nunes
Wing: Rodrtgo, Bobb, Doku, Savio
ST: Haaland, Ridrygo

You have to press to play!!?

Well it's nice to see some names bandied about, although I must admit to not seeing a great deal of some of them on a regular basis. I cannot see us never being a pressing team under Pep, it's one of his fundamentals. We didn't do it in the 2nd half against Utd, and aside from the fiascos concerning the goals, was one of the reasons we lost. Pretty big overhaul required. Bigger than some think or maybe even want.

I wouldnt disagree. I tried to look at it as in what was absolutely desperate to fix. There’s certainly an argument we need more than that for sure!!

over the squad limit at a quick count 18 overseas players. another HG needed for someone.

When we were at our best Rodri was our defensive midfielder and KDB was our box to box midfielder,

…I’m not sure we have many players who can play those roles, I personally think that we have reasonable cover in all other positions!

It should be someone who can play the 6 but also play the 8 next to Rodri. I suppose Todri could always be the one to adjust.

For my money Tijjani Reijnders is the best bet..
He's not the player we need we need physicality and ball winners. We have got lightweight touch players we don't need another.

Their midfield is absolutely stacked so he’s being forced to play CB. Madrid have got rid of loads of top players - Makalele, Robben, Sneijder to name a few.
Only makes me wonder if there could be any issues with his mentality, work rate in training etc. because he’s a very good player and it makes little sense to get rid of him unless he’s forcing his way out. He has a lot of the qualities we lack in midfield right now

Ancelotti loves him, Madrid aren't really looking to move him till the summer at least. He's not a fan of playing CB but he's not kicked up a fuss or anything. Press are speculating he might eventually.

We don't have touch players. Part of the reason why we are so easy to press is because our players have simply gotten too old and their touch sluggish.

We need young agile and energetic players.

Thats 4 Home Ground players out ;-)

We have to buy HG again i Think

In (HG): Brantwaite - Wharton + 1 or 2 more

Pretty much the only club in world football you can't turn your nose up at their rejects is Real Madrid.

Some amazing teams has been built around players they have got rid of

Certainly worked at the piggery for United with Varane and Casemiro.
Massive difference signing players in their prime struggling to nail down a spot because of the sheer volume of talent they stockpile, and signing the ones that has played out their whole career there and is being moved on because they are declining

Certainly worked for Arsenal (Ødegaard, Ozil to some degree), Bayern (Robben), Inter (Samuel, Sneijder, Cambiasso), Chelsea (Makelele), Napoli (Callejon, Higauin) on the top of my head. All players that would walk into our side at present, as would Tchouameni.

Say what you will about Madrid, but being part of their squad is a real stamp of quality

Just to play devil's advocate, Madrid have signed their fair share of shite over the years just like anyone else. Recent examples off the top of my head, Jovic, Reinier, Illaramendi, Mariano Diaz, Danilo was awful for them as well, their fans hated him if I remember correctly... Sure I'm forgetting some obvious ones. And they went through a real run in the 2000s of some shocking players in among the stars. They've wasted fortunes over the years. Getting signed by Real is not a surefire sign of quality.

That said, I absolutely rate Tchouameni and would be happy to see him in sky blue.

Danilo was very good for us when called upon, and has been great for Juve
