Delicious irony – UEFA set to pay a record amount to City (update P8)

This season winning the PL and CL could come in at £275mill-300mill Euros.

PB will know.

With the new TV deal this year for the PL the winner is looking at c£150 million. One element of the total depends on the number of times we appear in live televised games.

Whilst you are right we would have earned nearly 100 million Euros if we had won the CL last season, the potential max for 16/17 is different because we will receive a lower share of the market pool because we finished 4th in the PL last season compared to 2nd the season before. Also Celtic have a share of the market pool this year as well which eats into the pot. Finally a key factor is the number of games we play relative to the other English teams and Celtic - we don't know what that will be yet but last year was good with united not getting out of the group and arse and Chelsea falling in the last 16.

Hidden away from the excitement of yesterday, UEFA finally published the official financial distribution figures for the 2015/2016 campaign.

I’ve quoted the original OP from back in April because I’m pretty pleased (smug twat) my “best estimate” figures during the last campaign have proved to very accurate. Thanks here as well to PB because at the time we shared information and views in arriving at the “best estimate” figures.

Headlines:

· City received the highest amount ever by an English team

· City are in 2nd position behind Juventus in the all-time highest earners (English and rest of Europe) from the Champions League.

Great work Pablo. Surely there's a few journos out thee like Stu Brennan and Graham Hunter that would make a good story out of this? I also think it makes total sense fir the fans to support the CL and help the club win it as it would really make UEFA puke

Market pool. BT Sport. ?
The prize money is partly distributed based on how much each country's TV deal is worth. There's a pot of money that's based on entry into the group system, games won/drawn in the group stage and progression through the knock-out rounds. So whether you're Barcelona or Basel you get paid prize money on the same basis.

Then there's the Market Pool. That's a fixed pot split by country and based on the relative size of the TV deal. The BT Sport deal is about 25% of the total TV pot so the English teams get that amount of the pot. If it's €1.6bn in total then that's €400m guaranteed. That's split between the English clubs based on where they finished the previous season as well as how many games they played compared to the other English teams.

So we got 30% of €200m (half the pot) for finishing 2nd and 12/34ths of the other €200m, as we played 12 games compared to a total of 34 games played by the 4 English teams. The Spanish TV pot wasn't as big so even though they won it. So Madrid got €54m from the performance pot compared to €37m for us. But they only got €26m from the Market Pool compared to our €47m.

The only problem i see is that the refs are controlled by UEFA, much like the English refs used to be controlled by piss can. They could have a detrimental affect on us winning the comp.
