He is the type of player I would put down as a back up center half whilst Pepe would instantly want to command a first team position if anything.

I would prefer an out and out back up as I want Nastasic to fully flourish under us, but I do want Pepe for the CL experience.

Kompany and Pepe in the Champions League could be an absolute beast of a central defense, they would just have to gel perfectly.
Going off his performances in the CL I'd play Pepe and Nastasić.

You don't have to be quick to play a high line. You have to use your experience and reading of the game to make sure your pace doesn't need to come in to play.

Nastasic isn't very fast but instead relies on his speed to read the game to succeed.

Did Demichelis not play very well v Dortmund who are one of the fastest teams in Europe!

When you play a high line its all about reading the game to ensure that you can get the ball before the player can turn and run into the now huge gap behind the defence.

If Pellegrini trusts him and has faith in his ability then that is good enough for me. He now has the ability to have his pick of defenders to bid on so it speaks volumes he is still looking at Demichelis.

All this "high line" stuff is bollocks. Pellegrini didn't play a high line against Dortmund home or away with Málaga and we didn't play a high line against München the other week.

I didn't think you could join two clubs in one season. Surely At Madrid won't let him go before
he's kicked a ball for them.

I think you can't play for more than 2 clubs over 12 months. Shouldn't be a problem if he's not kicked a ball for them yet.

No. Pepe is absoultey top target
If Real sell Pepe they'll have a grand total of 2 centre-backs in their squad.

An awful lot has to happen before Pepe becomes a realistic target. It still looks very unlikely to me.

Whats looking more likely? This or Pepe?
This.

Don't see Real selling Pepe unless we pay silly money, they don't need to sell and he doesn't seem like he really wants to leave.

Totally agree. Clichy was on edge of penalty area when he chose to ignore Walcott. Listening to some on here,
you'd have thought he was on the halfway line.

Can play in midfield as well can't he?

Would be a decent signing imo if its a low fee.

Has he not just signed for Atletico Madrid on a free, how is this going to work?
I remember when Dietmar Hamann signed for Bolton and then a day later he joined us.

Saved me a post

Hamann went to Bolton and then we signed, this can work and Athletico are skint too. I'm hoping we carry on pursuing the Greek lad at Schalke, not seen much of him but reviews are always good to be fair. Want both of them.

Once he plays an official game with Atletico he can't be transferred this window. I think.

That's how i look at it.

Madrid aren't going to sell Carvalho, Albiol and Pepe and not sign one centre half going the other way leaving just Verane and the man who was once the world's best right back, Ramos, as their only centre halves. Nacho is already 23 and only made 11 appearances for Madrid in two seasons.

I think if Madrid keep Pepe they still need to sign two centre halves, one at a push if Nacho is to feature more this year. Never mind selling Pepe.

We should have kept Kolo.

He didn't want to stay. He wants to start week in/out. He felt he should not have lost his spot to Kompany when he came back from injury because he was playing so well.

So why did he go Liverpool then? they've been linked with a few centre backs, they've got Agger and Skirtel, we should have at least offered a contract. If he rejects it we move on.
