Whats the story behind that game. Some rags say we did not relegate them that day.Did they get relegated that day or not.
Yes they got relegated that day but even if they'd beaten us they would still have gone down because other teams around them got points.

-- Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:52 am --

Denis the rag Law = wanker anyways.

He has been quoted as saying that was the worst moment of his life, fucking shitbag played for us first as well.

Cant stand him at all, when ever he was used for a bit of punditry he never had a good word to say about us in the 80's/90's
He's a dirty Rag like the rest of them! If we could only change history and have had Mike Doyle score that goal instead - a proper blue - not like that red **** Law!

Technically,we did relegate them and it's due to their own thick fans invading the pitch. The match was officially abandoned with about 5 minutes to play, therefore it finished before eveyone else's game so they were down before the Southampton result.

No but pretty much nailed it on the head.

Ah...............happy days.

Our game ended before any of the others it was called off because of the crowd invasions, so the other results didn't matter because they were already down.
OR
The ref waited for the other games to end THEN called ours off while he was in his dressing room,i've yet to see any concrete proof of this.

I was actually at that game at Old Trafford ... i was only about 17 years old at the time , and it was a bit nerve wracking to see so many yobs coming our way , and climbin' the fences ..... it didn't half kick off in the Scoreboard paddock!

The cops , quite frankly , didn't have a clue .... they were out-numbered and made a half-hearted attempt to stop the invading rags , then just gave up an' just stood on the halfway line!

You could just sense that the atmosphere in the ground , aside from the City fans , was one of desperation and gloom.

Might 'ave been the worst day in yer life, Dennis, but for tens of thousands of Mancunians we 'adn't 'ad a better 'un since Uwe's grandad dropped his bombs!

our match finished before birmingham's due to the abandonment.

our result was first in. meaning birmingham could still have lost.

united were relegated by us.

So was i,no one told us we had the paddock and not the scoreboard,it was bedlam when Law scored, the fighting started in the k stand seats & that was the start of everything.
Fuckin darts & all sorts of shit was being thrown from one side of the scoreboard to the other.

OR because of the abandonment the result didn't officially stand until the FA ruled on it later.

The game result was announced on the Tannoy, the fa didn't rule on it not at the time or weeks later as would have the case now.
Not sure it would have been possible to overturn the result & award it to the rags.........obviously if it was 12 months ago we would have been docked 10 points & prevented from signing players for 2yrs.
