now i might seem thick but i don't know. i've measured the screen on the laptop (is that how i find out?) and it's 35cm x 20cm.

Um, no I'm afraid.

Right click on the desktop, click Properties, then the Settings tab, and you should see a heading Screen Resolution. The XXXX x XXXX is the "size" of your screen. Obviously, we want the wallpaper to fit it perfectly.
