Whilst I totally agree. It’s worth noting that the genesis of rocket technology was the German V2, whose aim was specifically to blow the shit out of us.

But the Germans lost and the Yanks grabbed the leading scientists and the space age was born.

They’re all great but not really relevant to the discussion.

The reason Space X launch from the ground is that it’s cheaper and simpler than launching 1/3 of the way up from an airplane as the cost savings of doing so are non existent.

I’m pretty sure Space X, NASA, the European space agency and the Russians all employed physicists and mathematicians to do the sums.
