Did Rodney Marsh Cost City the League Championship in 1972?

marsh played for himself, his ego would have it no other way.The effect of his showboating was to delight the crowd and demotivate the team.We did not need him,he was the equivalent of a trophy wife, whether he cost us the title can never be proved or disproved, all i know is what i saw. The fluid fast-moving attack became a disjointed slow-building shadow of itself. He found his natural home in the states, where being overweight and unfit was forgiven if you could do a few tricks.

without a shadow of a doubt Marsh cost us the league.
Our lightning fast break footballing style was destroyed by that self indulgent southern twat poncing about when he got the ball.
You might be a miserable fooker but you do make me laugh!
;-)

This is also the view of Summerbee, Bell and Lee.
That you're a miserable fooker?

It was probably a factor in us not winning it.As others have rightly said,Wyn Davies and Franny Lee were devestating, the big one little one up front much favoured in those days.

The team was balanced and Marsh's introduction upset the balance, but he left us with some fantastic goals and memories.

As someone else rightly said Gordon Banks produced an unbelievable goalkeeping display on Easter Saturday as Stoke beat us 2-1 at Maine road.He really was that good,i have never seen anything like it,before or since.

Talking of goalkeepers in the 1974 final against Wolves it was another keeper,a rookie replacement for their first choice who had a blinder. His name was Gary Pierce. We battered them and the post, bar[twice] and Pierce saved them.

Without question.

Saw his debut v Chelsea at home, he was very unfit,a complete carthorse that day.

He had one good game the season he signed, the last one of the season v Derby which didn't matter to us and guess what, he scored twice.

Loved Rodney, but not for City. At the time he really divided opinion
