did this happen?

My Grandad reckons he use to go to City one weekend and United the next as they played at hone on alternate weekends like they do now.

Seemed quite bizzare that anyone would do that but hey ho each to their own.

Loads of people used to do it - don't forget it was very cheap entertainment in those days - It most definitely did not mean you supported both clubs - although a few may have done

my 2 elder brothers were rags. i had to go with them i hated it.

me mum though made them take me to maine rd though. scoreboard we used to go.

they didn't like it either.

supermum!

my old man was a rag but the whole street seemed to go maine road so he went, he took us along to swamp around 85-86 but we soon fucked it off, he was gutted as he sat with me listening to the 5-1 on the radio but pleased for my brother who was 15 that day and stood in kippax.

My Dad also used to watch City and United at home on alternative weekends! He packed it in (watching the Rags) after Munich though. He was always a Blue but went to the Swamp with his brother (who is a Rag).

After Munich he was in the Stretford End for the first game when a makeshift United team played (I think Sheffield Wednesday?) and when United scored women were crying and waving white hankies etc. The general hysteria disturbed him and he decided it wasn't his place to be there. So only returned as an away fan when City visited.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit but during the 60s I also went to the swamp sometimes when City were away. I also called into watch Bury or Bolton every so often. Football and football supporters have changed a lot since the 60s and I guess it's rare nowadays to watch other teams.

I knew someone who used to go to Charlton one week and Millwall the next. He said he once saw Frank Swift make a one-handed catch at full stretch in the top right-hand corner of the goal.

Swifty must have had massive hands.

Never used to go the rags, did go to Oldham a few times. We'd usually go watch the speedway at Belle Vue if it was on.

I did the speedway a few times but I think it was at night times.
